Next to the kitchen => this is the storage room. If you go a bit south and take the first SW room there, you'll meet Rashax, an imp. If you have the quest from cook Bryant: "Kill rats in storage room" - he will give you the key.

Room with stairs => I think you mean the exit room door to Act 2. The key is in the east chamber of Samuel's lair. His DK there drop 2 keys - both open the chambers there. Did you miss one rune key?

As noted else where you need to talk to the cook (I think his name is Bryant or something like that) then talk to Rashaz - kill the rats - talk to Bryant again talk to Rashaz again (but can't remember if talking to Rashaz gives you any extra points or not - just finishes the plot nicely).

As far as the lava flow:

You need three items which you may, or may not, have picked up along the way but are not sure what to do with - if you still have problems try the spoiler. BTW this took me ages and ages to solve - only to find that the solution was on other pages/messages so you may like to browse these first.

SPOILER: Spoiler : go back to the first level you need to pick up a barrel of coal (its underneath the portrait) where you killed the torturer.

go back to the gay doctor - begind him are some potions (which you probably picked up) but also a dish of sulfur which you need now

return to the harrassed cook (Bryant?) behind him - that is slightly to the north west - is a barrel of salt

go back to the lava flow and play with these three items (try mixing) - when you have it right the solution is obvious

Hope that this helps

You get the summoning doll for completing the quest Poisonous rat bite.
The 2nd BF key is in the barracks (nr 4 on this map)

I am not sure if not doing the cooks quest will cause you to not be able to continue. I don't think so. Most of the side quests have minimal influence on the main story line, if any at all. They are just there to earn you more experience, and make the game more fun. As far as the lava goes, that to isn't going to stop you. There is also a way out at the end of the level. You just take the stairs. I think the main thing is that you need to go to Samuels lair and defeat his death Knights. You get the keys that you need to continue there as well as a battlefield key. Whenever you find a battlefield key, make it a point to go there and play out that dungeon. You gain valuable exp. and can usually find some valuable items. If you think a little bit, you can really use the battlefields, and the merchants there to your advantage. I don't know how much experience you have playing these types of RPG's, but never leave any stone unturned. Explore everything. Open every box, barrel, or chest. Talk to everyone. I think that you can still proceed, you just blew a few quests, which can happen to the best of us. Good luck.

Doubt that you've missed that much - look upon Act I as a trainer for the rest of the game - well the first half of Act I anyway - when things are looking grim try these pages again.

Killing Bryant does not alter the plot that much as you wil probably end up killing him anyway just for the XP hehe and the item you need is there all the time.

If you've sorted Samuel the first time round then you should have access to BF3 - when you have access to BF3 you have access to BFs 1, 2 and 3 - in other words all lower BF numbers. Hint: remember this for later in the game.

Not giving anymore spoilers (fresh out of them tonight) but as you have to go back to the earlier levels anyway consider turning lights off before a locked door - or is that on - or is it a combination of the two. The tooth fairy may be kind and give you a bonny doll.

Keep in there - its worth it.

Thank you so much for the replies

right (optomistic hat back on) hmm now where to start??

I got the talk from samuel, then he has to rush off for somethg, all his dk are about lvl 14 i thk. i did try but can't kill one just now, i thk im lvl 10 so get mashed very quickly by even one of his dk's. Do i actually have to kill these dk's, i thk theres about 5 or 6 of them??

I have gone to battfiled lvl1 and i can get access to just 1 dungeon just now which i did. I also killed all the other mobs on the surface in the 3 strips. As far as i can see the mobs dont respawn there so when ive gone back a few times theres nothing to kill. Is there a way i can get access to the other 2 dungeons tho? that would help get me lvled up a bit as well )

STAIRS
One of the 2 rooms i can't get access to, is the one in which i can see stairs (im assuming this is the exit out)

lol how on earth do ppl get so good at these games

Maddy

ps i thk that map will be a great help

pps NEW CHALLENGE FOR ALL U EXPERTS
Not getting thru the game yourself, pfft far too easy^_^

Sorry to have to tell you this, but you do have to kill them. There's four of them, two melee and two archers.
Life's a lot easier if you can split them and pick them of one by one. Enter sneak mode as soon as you have finished your little chat with samuel. Then, equip a bow (no training required) and shoot at the nearest DK. He will come running to you, and when he's within your view of sight you get to fight just him.
Stock up on health potions or go down when you are close to dying, and sleep (the DK's don't heal).
Melee:
Make sure your weapons are sharpened as much as your current agility allows you.

Archer:
hit and run: always sneak, shoot a few arrows, retreat before the dk's get to close, wait until he resumes his original position. Rinse and repeat

Mage:
wel mages are kinda weak in a1. So better of using melee or archer tactics even with a mage (of course, you can shoot fire missiles or sth like that instead of arrows, but I believe they have some resistance to the elements)

BF key lvl 2 is in the Barracks (nr 4 on this map - be sure to use your alt key)
You can't get to BF lvl 3 yet, as therefore you would require the key one of the DK will provide when you kill him

Yes it is. And to get the key (yet again) you have to kill samuel's DK's.

Thanks you so much for taking all your valuable time to help. I really like this game, despite it being way too hard ^_^

I get a fit of giggles everytime my pet dk talks to me )

I find the best idea is to find a good few explosive arrows or splitting arrows. if the dk get too close just go down and wait a while.
