I've just finished Act II and before making my way to Baldur's Gate I thought I'd see if my romance might progress a bit and went to sleep in camp. That's when a certain bear cub came looking for food. I'm pretty sure that was supposed to happen in Act I. And I'm suddenly worried that maybe I did not rest enough to get to see all the things that play out between companions, and will not before the game concludes.

Therefore my question: how many long rests per Act do people take?

Given the sheer endless supply of camp supplies, I assume the game is geared towards many long rests, and possibly has plenty content to make every rest interesting. Is that so, or are there other factors at play when it comes to certain events happening either sooner or later?

Since I've been playing over a long period, it's hard to tell for sure, but I guess I must have taken somewhere around a dozen long rests in total. That felt adequate at the time (even though some encounters might have been easier if I could have gone all in with the spells), but now I feel like I should have called it a day a bit more often.

Given that I play spell-casters with limited spell slots, I cannot possibly imagine this game in terms of "number of long rests per Act." It would be in the dozens to hundreds is my assumption. I long rest every time I run out of spell slots, unless there's a time-sensitive quest active.

If you're not playing a class with a limited resource, you should definitely long rest frequently until nobody in camp gives you any new dialogue. Then advance the storyline until people start giving new dialogue again.

(Presumably the bear cub is the owlbear cub.)

Spell Caster myself, and like KyaSapphire, I rest when I am out of spells or before any major fight. I am not going to jeopardize a fight or limit my casters to utilizing only cantrips for the sake of saving some money on food costs. The only time that I am really worried is when there is of course time-sensitive quests.

I have found there is always something to talk about if you progress at that pace. End of the day, do what is best for your enjoyment of the game.

Not specifically long rests, but you should rest without spending food All. The. Time

Reason is a lot of important story scenes are tied to resting and when you do not rest enough you will miss them and the game will decide what dialog options you choose during them (usually going the horny route)

So rest after each and every major or minor event. Multiple times till you do not get more scenes.
Or install a mod that notifies you that there is a new rest event pending.

That actually sounds like a worthwhile thing to have. Thanks, will take a look into that.

Thanks also for all the other replies. It seems my worries are somewhat justified ... hope I did not miss out on any of the important stuff! Though given how many complaints I have seen about all the sex, and all I managed so far was exchanging a (very chaste!) kiss with Shadowheart, seems I've got some catching up to do in that area at least ;-).

Relegating all that to the camp feels a bit counter-intuitive given the implied urgency, but it seems to follow the Dragon Age formula in that regard. Can't quite remember how things went in Baldur's Gate 2, but I want to believe that all the companion conversations were tied to events other than resting.

Well Maybe its becouse i dont Bring anymore normally all the companions during my Games.. But i Always rest when my spell slots burn out or Before some Special part when i already know i will get a bunch of fights after another..
but regarding rest and history events if yu dont have all of the Companions By the end of Act 1 will be no more events in camp to show so yu can rest all as yu can without getting guilty of missing something.
(and some special lines and conversations yu do not need to Rest to get.. just speak with then after entering some special place or do something special in the game.. most of times they will have something to say. Kinda Love that in this game in my fist Run i didant Know this so i miss a lot and regret it..)

Save before swapping over to next chapter and do a series of long rests to trigger them. I did this before second chapter and ran into 3? if I remember correctly that I didn't see.

They really should make that mod part of the standard game.
