Hi all,
I am a huge fan of Larian and all your games, and with BG3 I must say that you have reached the pinnacle of what I could wish for in such a game. Unfortunately, although the game is perfect in every way, as a UX Designer, I find one constant that was also present in Divinity, the management of the inventory and the spell bar menu.
I believe that with 2/3 tweaks it is possible to solve a problem that plagues so many obsessive/compulsive users like me.
Inventory:
• The inventory should be divided into tabs like during interaction with merchants, so as to make it easier to search for specific items (example: All, Weapons, Armor, Consumables, Main Items, Potions, Pouches etc).
• Should be possible to change name and the icon/design of specific pouches or chests (example: Pouch > Rename to Potions Pouch > Color from Brown to Purple).
• Should be able to apply, also, a flag on a that chest/pouches to causes that type of item to automatically move in once it is collected (Normal Pouch > Flag: Potions > All potions are placed within that bag).
• Have the automatic reorder forcefully move items inside the specific bag instead of leaving them inside the inventory.
Spell Bar:
These changes would be convenient just to optimize the interface.
• The tabs (Common, Class x, Items, Passive, Custom) should be replaced by icons as the first one (the red one) actually is.
• There should be the specific tab for arrows, potions and actions/moves.
• Whenever a spell is acquired at a new level, it is forced into the bar below. This forcing, as is the case with potions and arrows, should be able to be chosen from the settings.
Bonus:
Library:
This is very personal, it would be very nice if in the "Journal" section there was also a kind of library where all the books that are collected are copied so that you have a chance to re-read the whole story at your leisure. Books once read for the first time will be "consumed" subsequent copies of the same book will remain in the inventory to be sold later. This Quality of Life solution would greatly improve both inventory management and the experience itself since in an average of 150 hours of play per run some books are often read or collected multiple times.
It will be fantastic if the "Bookstore" will physically present at the camp. Interacting with the bookstore will open the journal.
That's all,
Thanks for your time and this absolute masterpiece.
Best,
Verse
