Started working on the Minsc storyline, Counting House is done and long rested before heading into sewers. During this time one of my group was taken hostage. Can I go into the sewers to rescue Minsc without the hostage being killed? (Reloaded and soon as I go into the sewers, Orin shows up saying she has a hostage.)

You should be able to rest as much as you want. Orin wants you to kill Gortash first and for that to take down the robots first. It takes time and she knows it.

Yes, but my main question is, can I go into the sewers to get Minsc without Orin killing the hostage?
Since he's close to Baal's temple.

Never done it but I do not think just being near the temple would trigger anything. You need to finish the whole chain quest to get into the temple. Until then, you are not in the zone to trigger any event.

Thank you...will try and see what happens, and post the results for anyone else that runs into this.

Umm, he's not even close to the Bhaal temple? it's on the other side of the map. There is a waypoint right next to the door leading to the temple. If you open that door (and it's possible without doing any of the murder chain quests) that, and only that will trigger a timer in which she will indeed kill the hostage.
Also killing Sarevok triggers that timer.
