Not sure if this counts as a bug, but it's actively ruining my experience.

When after a fight dialogue automatically starts, it's almost always thr wrong party member speaking instead of my main character. Like the NPC will just initiate dialogue with the closest character.
For example it happens after the Ethel fight and when raiding the grove with Minthara. I have to savescum and position my main character close to the NPC so they get to talk. And sometimes even that dosen't work. Minthara always picks Astaion for some reason in my current playthrough.

Why does it not automatically pick the main character for dialogues, especially story important ones? Or why forcefully start dialogue at all? Just have combat be over and update the quest to talk to the NPC...

It's extemely annoying.

I’m not sure if it helps with this, but there is an option in the gameplay menu to have the “Avatar” selected after combat. For me, while sometimes another, closer party member is selected post-battle, most of the time it is my PC.

And yes, I agree it’s annoying not to be able to pick which character we want to lead a conversation when they’re all standing right there! This is something that’s been raised multiple times since early access days, but unfortunately hasn’t been addressed.

Yes, unfortunately this has been an issue since EA that has yet to be fixed!

Okay, so I figured it out for my specific case with Minthara. I'm playing Durge and have the Deathstalker Mantle, which turns you invisible for 2 turns after killing an enemy. Seems like when you are invisible Minthara can't see you, so she just picks a different party member instead. In my case it was always Astarion. No clue why him, he wasn't the closest to her (literally on the other end of the room) nor is he next in the party list (on the right screen side).

Unequipping the Mantle solved it for that case.

Hahah the Durge cape, classic! grin

I ran into this exact issue when the game released, it's kinda ironic how a cape exclusive to us Durge players is also a cape that entirely stops Durge from having conversations after combat. Which is why I just give it to Karlach or Lae'zel, at least they benefit nicely from the stealth advantage.
