Hello,

Besides rp reasons there is no real benefit from playing dwarf. Not to say they are heavily underpowered.

The biggest no-no for me is their lower movement speed without some kind of compensation. I mean halflings get lucky and gnomes get better saves.

Duergar is the only decent choice for dwarves IMHO.

What do you think? Do dwarves need some love from the devs?

Cheers

AMEN.....

Dwarves it feels like where ignored despite the fact they are a prevalent race in Forgotten Realms lore. More so than Tieflings and Half Orcs as well as Halfings. In fact going through the novels and source material, Dwarves are about as prevalent as Elves, if not a little more so.

Feels odd that one of the MOST iconic races for DnD and the Forgotten Realms is the most neutered.

What is this concept of movement speed you talk about?

I only move by Misty Step, why would I need legs?

But agree with the points. Dwarves were given little attention and play almost no major part in any quest.

When you find out that the suspect for the murders for the murder tribunal is a dwarf I am like "Well this should be easy, because there´s like two dwarves of note in the entire city, and Korrilla is a girl"

100%, dwarves in general are very iconic so it kind of feels weird how they have nothing going on in the game.

So... yeah. Where's the love?

I agree, dwarves need more love. I mean, Duergar are pretty good, but the other subraces don't get too much.

Longstrider spell
Mobile feat
Barbarian 5th lvl

All the above deal with the lower speed.

But I agree that Dwaves (and other runts) have been neglected in design and story, with the effort being put into the Tiefling, Gityanki and Dragonborn zoo.
I was surprised -with my Tolkien and WFB background - that Dwarves do not have some sort of encumberance bonus (which unfathomably Humans got).

When you realized, based on FG lore that Dragonborn and Gityanki are races that MANY people in the Realms will never see and a lot of never even heard of. Even the Tieflings are VERY rare when compared to Dwarves.

Agreed, and when you meet the Duergar in the Underdark, they are mostly one note, apart from that nice architect. The rest are all the same kind of foul tempered slavers with colourful language.
I could have done with some more nuanced interpretation there.

.... eww !

But yeah Dwarves are strangely underpowered, especially Shield Dwarves.

So are Dragonborn, for that matter. At least make their racial get better with level - 1d6 damage at level 1, 2d6 at level 5, 3d6 at levl 10.

Otherwise all they get is immunity to an elemental damage, and Tiefling gets that as well, but with a lot of extras.

I also dont like Human, and by extension Half-Elf. Too much stuff crammed into them for no good reason.

I like Thrinn, Duergar are suppose to be bald, even females, but she's has hair and pulls off the look very well, she however is known for being a Nere simp, if I didn't know any better I say she was in love with him.

She is as cruel, if not more, than the otehrs. I don't like her.

I kind of like the whole Dwarf vs Elf rivalry that both races are known for, they only reason they don't murder each other both races good friends with humanity, If were to DM,
I would have a secret conspiracy where humans are the secret byproducts of Elves breeding with Dwarves, and both sides don't want anyone finding out about it.

I would also stat Santa as a Dwarf, he's got the beard, the body type, the whole hatred and enslavement of elves (they're actually gnomes, however nobody is brave enough to correct him on the matter), also if you replace Eggnog and Milk with Alcohol you'd get a stereotypical dwarf.

The dwarf seems to be the worst option for the race at this moment. The low movement speed is a massive blow to a primarily melee oriented race. At least it should have some major tankiness and defense bonuses.

Shield Dwarves, if they had stuck to a PHB would get a +2 STR and +2 CON, this would have made up for the lower movement.

Tieffelin are everywhere in the game and it's very surprising especially with such a blatantly diabolical physique since the 4th edition.

In fact, they're absolutely rare and don't even account for 0.5% of Baldur's Gate.

Dwarves are the big absentees, and I'm not even counting the few Dwarves present with the beard of an asthmatic virgin (translation: a depressive fuzz).

I want my Dwarf to be gruff and, if possible, of the wrong alignment, like Kagain and Korgan.

I wish all the races had access to the same faces. That way I can make an attractive (to me) dwarf male character. Look at the Hobbit, it's very possible that they exist lmao.

Ehhh123 I agree on the faces

Anyone else notice that halfling males get a preset with scars built in. My favorite rogue face

I love the dwarf presets in Bg3 (only speaking on male). Preset 2 when aged looks like a tired older person and it’s one of my favorites especially on duergar

Gold dwarf- built in extra hit points. For me it allows me to place con in other stats so I can have an easier time multi classing

Act 1 spoiler-tiefling players don’t get any more immersion than dwarves. Duergar/deep gnomes get probably the most love along with drow. For Dragonborn I only remember Ethel even commenting on it. Same with 1/2 orcs

Duergar are not all just bald fyi. Many are balding
