Sorry about the clumsy title, but I don't remember the NPC's name that gave me the quest as I had never seen her before in three previous play-throughs.

I was basically just running around lower city (somewhere south of the Wine Festival IIRC) and didn't even have the camera on the party when suddenly an encounter with a group of watchmen (Fists?) triggered. Some woman wanted to challenge me to a fight for letting Duke Ravenguard die. When I persuaded her to not attack, she basically gave me the same lines of dialogue re Ansur that I would usually get from the Duke after I had rescued him from the Iron Throne.

I didn't do anything differently re the Duke than on my other play-throughs - except this time I had Wyll in the party when visiting the coronation and talking to Mizora after the ceremony.

I still made him break the pact then told him we'd still be able to rescue his father anyway.

Interestingly enough, when I talked to Wyll and Mizora at camp after the encounter with that NPC-woman, Mizora would sort of admit that she told that NPC-woman that I had let Ravenguard "die".

Minor bug/glitch re the writing is that someone (I think Wyll) claims that Counselor Florrick had told the party about Ansur - and she is still imprisoned in Wyrm's Rock for all I know (haven't done her rescue yet).

So, is that encounter with the city-watch group and being able to get the info on Ansur "early" a new thing or did it simply never trigger for me before because I never had Wyll in my party during previous play-throughs?

Yeah, Act 3 still needs some polish. Quests and info are all over the place and don't necessarily make sense. I got that quest too way before I rescued the duke while I was just roaming around the Lower City. Don't remember where Wyll was but as far as I remember I had Karlach, Gale and Shadowheart with me at the coronation as I expected a fight. Mizora admitted the same to me at camp.

You can get to Ansur without any in game help at all. Just need to know to shock dragon head torches.

Without Wyll there’s no quest, but more importantly no clue that I know of on how to get to Ansur. Even though you can rescue Wyll’s father without Wyll of course, I was expecting clue/quest at that point (because why not? you still have the dialogue option of telling the whole story to the duke, could have been the trigger).

There should have been a clue, because otherwise it’s basically more cut content for the evil path, thinking of a first-time player going that route without spoilers. Not guessing the way in.
