Wanting to start the portal fight at the lake - north of Last Light Inn, it is marked in my journal so I should be ready to go for it.

Halsin happend to NOT be in his spot at the lake, instead he stands near the doorway of the room with Art Cullagh who I already woke up before. You can't interact with him though.

Any hints?

Just want to make sure the following conditions are met:
1. You retrieved Art Cullagh's broken lute from the House of Healing
2. Spoke to Halsin, performed on the lute, and Art is awake.
3. Halsin said he would meet you at the beach

If you have done all the above, I normally do a long-rest before this battle. If a long rest does not make Halsin go to where he should, try going to a different region (e.g. the Underdark) then come back to the Last Light Inn. If you use the Pixie's Blessing, make sure to ring the bell again otherwise it disappears when going to a different map. Once you're in a different region, come back to the Last Light Inn, and see if this forces the entire region map to reload. This could help generate the NPC at the correct location, rather than have him walk there.

I did not encounter this problem, so I can only speculate. You'll still need to test it yourself. Make sure to create a new hardsave for your testing, just in case something goes wrong and you need to delete it.

I guess I did not talk to Halsin - now the game is broken. I won't complete this quest - too bad, I really liked the battle. THANKS!

Had a long rest like you suggested - now halsin is back at the camp, the quest is marked finished - no fight. PLUS I encountered another bug, not game breaking, but very importat. I am starting to really disapprove that game.

I had a similar issue like two month ago. Halsin moved back to the camp and could not progress the quest. The solution was to stealth kill Art and use "Speak with the Dead" to get the information to re-launch the mission.
I think this quest breaks if you leave the Shadowcursed lands after starting it.

Thanks for your replies. I'll try the rude solution MalacPok sugested soon and report if it worked. I could imagine that I broke the quest by leaving the Shadowcursed Lands.

Sometimes this Bug Happesn when yu Dont Save the Last Light..
(the Game dosent Handle this Rout that well becouse yu are Not Sopposed to Let the Last Light Fall if yu Save the Grove..)
yu are only Supposed to Let this Happen when yu came from Cresch/Rosymon rout and are playing Bad by siding with Goblins..
then this bug Happesn i had it Once too.
(the only way i find out.. was to Roll Back and Save the LL.. from fell. then went ok.)

This Game has a Lot of this..
Like in act 1 if yu Explore the Underdark 1,2 before Finishing the Grove Quest and siding with Halsin.. he went Crazy in the conversation..
the Game dosent Handle that well when yu do some things out of the Box.
(yu are only supposed to Go there and Explore the entire thing First.. if yu Side with Goblins.. this way the Game will not Brake becouse yu will reach act 2 from Rosymon..)

and the Best Timing to Make his Quest without Running into Any Blocker/BUG
is to Reach LL, Save it.
go to the Tower.. then after saving evrybody in Prision, go take the Stuff to wake up the Dude..
when yu go Back in the LL to Complete the Thieflings and Prision quest
Wake up the Dude..
Talk to Hin, go sleep OUTSIDE THE LL.
(sometimes Camping in the LL will make the BUg happen to..)
Just Cross the Brigde to outside, Camp, tell hin.
Rest, go back there and finish the quest..

(was the Best Route i Find OUt to get hin Early in act 2 and avoid any Bug/Blocker..)
if yu do as i Say yu will open in the Middle of act 2.. if yu like hin yu will be able to use hin for the rest of act 2.

The code in this quest needs to be rewritten. Its now been close to 3 months. I was going to submit a writeup stating this was an excellent game, now I am holding off. If Larian could have fixed this problem, they already would have done so. Patching obviously is not working. A rewrite of this quest
code is necessary. Up until this quest, I have had very few problems.

I tried what MalacPoc suggested, but it did not work for me. At the momeent my playthrough seems to be a total chaos, I don't know if I got the guts to start from that early on again.

I thought I just leave that nice battle out and go on, but them Shadowheart turned against me when I did not want to kill the Nightsong, we had to fight and kill Shadowheart. What a mess!

Sorry, it looks like that mission has a bunch of overlapping bugs. The best method to avoid it is not starting it until you have the lute and then doing it in one go.
You can also avoid killing Shadowheart by letting her make the choice. She will choose not to kill the Nightsong on her own.

Act 2 spoilers

Yeah, you gotta kinda be gentle with Shadowheart and guide her in a subtle way, and she will choose to spare Nightsong herself. She’s very strong-willed and hates being told what to do. It also helps a lot if you give her the Noblestalk mushroom from the Underdark. That greatly increases the odds that she’ll spare her. Personally, I’d recommend starting over once patch 5 drops later this week.

There are actually some cool interactions with Shadowheart that you may not have gotten the first time around, that are definitely worth doing. Like giving her the Noblestalk, night orchid, and a statue of Shar that you find in Grymforge. You get special interactions when you give her the Shar statue as a cleric of Selune. So definitely worth playing again if you haven’t experienced those things and you love Shadowheart (like I do).

Same thing again - started again a bit before the Thaniel-Quest, same Bug occurred, despite the fact that I followed your hints closely. Thanks anyway.
