I'm really enjoying Baldur'a Gate 3, it brings me back to my childhood, many years ago now, when I would stay late after school to play table top D'n'D with friends, not something that I have kept up later on in life; Baldur's Gate effectively puts me right back there!
I'm a Mac user also a programmer, interested in games, as such I have been wondering who it is that are playing Baldur's Gate 3. To be a little more precise, how is the market share between: Mac, PC, and console. Does anyone have any figures that might give an idea; I'm particularly intrigued to know what percentage are Mac users?
Thank you for your thoughts and any info on this.
mrig the wizard.

I'd be playing on a Mac if it wasn't on PS5. The inability to mod kind of sucks though.

I played on cloud gaming and SteamDeck but currently both of them are in bad shape with the current patch. So I am waiting for the next hotfix or patch.

Playing on Windows PC. I don't own other platforms. I have some lag every time I change scene (going down a hatch or quick traveling) and entering into discussion, but not (yet) as bad as the things I've read. Yet I only have a Geforce 1660 GTX Ti, which is below recommended, and have the game installed on a magnetic hard drive, not SSD. I do have an I7 CPU, but I suppose the GPU and disk are more important for this problem.

It was running better than on Rtx 4080. And it looks like ppl commenting with lower end machines they don't have this issues. I also tried out to turn down the graphics to minimum actually it don't maked any positive effects. Also weird thing fps counter is always 120. So have zero clue what is gooing on. If I had to guess I whould say it has something to do with xbox series s. But it just my tinfoil theory.

No I dont have numbers. I never owned a mac or a console, and I'm not planning to. The most is a Linux PC and the main reason I dont have one of those is lack of funding.
Roleyplaying games like Baldurs Gate should be played with keyboard and mouse, or their interface is a PITA. Examples for this are for example Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Origins.
BG3 however seems to have found some sort of balance by making both interfaces wildly different and giving console users a lot more clicks to do to do anything, and apparently some things are harder to do on console, too. I dont know how much extra work this caused.
If you want real mass consumption you probably should aim for smartphones. If successful, the sheer number of installations can then outshine all other plattforms combined. I am not sure how much that applies to roleplaying games though. These tend to be complex, thus asking for keyboard and mouse for comfortable operation.

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in the mud. After a bit, you realize the pig enjoys it.

Actually you can play it on smart phones and iPhones with Geforce now. You don't even need controller but I dont like that you cover with your thumbs the screen. So the best option is to buy a 3-5 euro/usd controller phone holder. Lot of ppl don't even know this technology exists. That's why they are buying ps portal.

PS5 player here, although if my Windows PC had more horsepower I probably would have played on that instead. I suspect the controls would have suited me better and having ready access to Mods could have improved the experience in some places.

I don't know if there's anything listing numbers across systems in a way that can be easily compared. You can see how many people are actively playing BG3 on Steam here, though (you can also see recent updates regarding progress on Patch 5 if you scroll a little): https://steamdb.info/app/1086940/depots/?branch=release_patch4Currently: 130,936 In-Game This doesn't tell you how it's split between PC/Mac/Linux, obviously, but it gives an idea of how many are actively playing on a computer OS and not PS5.
