So I started to think if 1.3 million ppl complied bg3.
And All's Well That Ends Well is sitting around 20% on steam.
Thats mean? 1.3 mill :20=65000 is 1%. So 1%65000 x 100 = 6.5 million copies sold by steam????

Mybe I missed something. The only thing that can be an error if this stat was taken from all platforms.

PS5 “All’s well that ends well” is at 12.1%

Larian doesn’t release sales numbers but it’s speculated to be between 10-20 million sold copies

Hmm.. Interesting..
The where not specific that it's just pc or ps5 to.
But now I doubt that it's 10-20 million . It's more around 5 mybe or even less depending if both platform togather "All's Well That Ends Well" was counted. If it's just steam then 6.5 mill + playstation.

I took the average of the steam and ps5 achievement numbers (16.48%) and based on that the number would be 7.8 million players. It seems a bit low for me. Just for comparison Tears of the Kingsom sold 19.5 million copies by September 2023

Legend of Zelda is one of the top, premier IPs in gaming. That is not a fair comparison. Very few games get those kinds of numbers.

Steam doesn't take into consideration anyone who purchased the game from places other than Steam.

This means people who bought it from say, GoG or direct from Larian's store are not counted, even if it's still being played on PC.

It doesn't account for people who play on console.

Swen Vincke once said that whatever sales were made during early access, devs should expect 10 times more sales for the released version.

Considering BG3 sold over a million copies in early access, I’d be surprised if they hadn’t broken 10 million sales by now.

Larian, please make accessibility a priority for upcoming patches.

It looks like I was right at the first time when I guesed they sold 30 mill+. And wrong with my second calculation.

https://twitter.com/larianstudios/status/1742244603355333066

I think ppl needed to play bg3 to give the voite on steam. Why would someone make an extra account on steam to voite. It makes no sense.

More then 40 million people I this cannot be faked. It's insane I can just guess but they sold 40 million copies?????
I understand they don't need to share they numbers but I am really really interested. Because if other developers will see those numbers maybe we will get similar games.

Also considering that I own 3 copies and I only voite ones I don't even bother to login to my daughter and my wife's account. This number can be even bigger.??

To be clear, you did not need to have purchased or played BG3 at all to vote for it in the steam awards, and I personally witnessed numerous people who openly said they were going to vote for it in every category they could, regardless of the category, and regardless of whether or not they'd gotten around to playing the game yet (back logs, other games, etc.), because 'they were sure it was great' or they'd 'heard great things about it'.

Not to discount the reports and the statements made, but, drawing speculation about sales count based on award votes is just that - extremely speculative and unreliable.

I know but my question why bother to give bg3 a voite?? Also I wrote I gues and this post is more like a question. And I am really interested about the sales for the future of crpg. Because this can change the mindset.

Actually I was expecting hogwarts to win. It suppose to have a huge fan base. I also think that ppl that owns bg3 on GoG voited as well. And no one considers this.

I believe the early access number was 2.5 million. I recall seeing that recently. Maybe it was in the credits after beating the game? A thank you to the 2.5 million early access players.

I'd love to see real sales numbers. Without, all we can do is make the most educated guesses we can.

That said, if BG3 got 40 million votes, that speaks volumes. I almost find it hard to believe. Maybe after 40 million *total* votes, BG3 won? Meaning those votes were spread out between everything?

Well i actually started to wonder as well. It was hard to believe number.
so I picked up a few steam db numbers
Hogwarts

https://steamdb.info/app/990080/charts/

Elden Ring

https://steamdb.info/app/1245620/charts/

VS

BG3
https://steamdb.info/app/1086940/charts/

I think i readed somewhere that elden ring sold 30 mill.
And the chart vs bg3 are really similar. And Hogwarts I read some where it sold 15mill.
Considering that BG3 Is on cloud gaming and Gog + Xbox and ps. Mybe it's believable.

Just by how they phrased it in their tweet, I think it’s 40 million votes total cast for any game in the Steam awards. Because even if they had sold 40 million copies, definitely not all of those people are going to be aware of the Steam awards and vote on those, you know?

While that's how I read it as well, it should also be stressed that no one needs to own the game to vote for it at the Steam awards, so the direct correlation with sales is tenuous regardless of these being total votes OR votes for BG3.

P.S. That said, I'm still guessing that the game is already the 15+ ballpark at minimum at this point. Of which at least 10 millions on Steam alone.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN
