Why do we even have a quest to make it? There's really no point for the item to be honest. Sure it's kinda cool but why is there even a quest to make it and the stuff for the quest? You never actually even have to use it or even make it. Or am I totally missing something? That's the point of this post. Am I missing something?

It is one of the better swords in Act 1 if you make a greatsword. I never use it because I use the one that drops in the githyanki crčche for Lae’zel. But the sussur bark greatsword does have the benefit of silencing enemies, that is preventing them from casting magic, when you hit them. Not sure how long it lasts, but it can be useful.

Sussur Greatsword on Karlach with the Reverberating Boots is so much fun and useful for the entire group. Silencing and reducing STR/DEX with each stack of Reverberation along with the potential to knock enemies prone if you apply x5 stacks, especially if she's a Berserker Barbarian with x3 strikes per turn.

Try it on bosses who like to cast and see how trivial they become grin

I don't know why they thought adding cheap +1 weapons and armor to every vendor was a good idea.

Something like the Sussur Greatsword isn't all that when you've already bought a Greatsword +1 or Great Axe +1 with pocket change.

To make loot special they should first remove 95% of magic gear from vendors. Especially ones that are supposed to be refugees and even say "I don't have much". The +1 gear you can buy also makes pretty much all magic loot that doesn't have a +1 enchantment redundant.

It's a side quest. That's the point. It's something you CAN do, but don't have to.

More stuff for Gale to eat?

Gale eats three items only, AFAIK. The eating stuff no longer works and he is ready to blow his top.

I love putting Sussur dagger on Astarion, as his off-hand weapon. I use this weapon for the silence, not the attack damage laugh Forcing magic users to do melee 8'D

If sickles were finesse weapons with a bonus for alliteration, then the Ssusur sickle should slice surely & swiftly as some similar small swords.

i am strongly disagree, sussur weapon is great. i usually craft a dagger and give to a dual wielding astarion, so he cam land crits and also cast silence with the sussur dagger
for example remember the guy before orin's nest whom you need to kill in 5 turns or insta death? if that guy will get a silence debuff his curse on you would be lifted (at least it woirked for me like that a few patches ago)
silence is very useful

If the weapon actually silenced on hit, it'd be situationally pretty strong.

So, I tried it on Nere. There's a saving throw. He passed it. Every. Time. Yeah, no thanks.

(Well, that or he was concentrating + the greatsword is so bugged, it doesn't work at all...)

the point is to show off a game mechanic so Larian can say to Wizards of the coast "look our engine can handle crafting weapons"

this was early in EA and the crafting system was reworked because it was too complex for some users, then they made the forge which also gives you items that soon become outdated and again lost even more users

so you make a system, assume players will like/ understand it then someone else makes the tooltip before every part of the crafting mechanic is recoded and a few years later here we are... game dev is such fun

I agree with Shadowshadow, the sussur dagger is great for a dual wielding Astarion. I've had him sneak attack numerous tough caster enemies, like Balthazaar and it made that battle so much easier.

I do that quest for some extra xp and the silence effect on it can be useful.
They still could give an option, to upgrade the Sussur weapons...i mean, up to Act 3 the enemies get stronger and stronger and it still stays only+1...

Regarding Nere, i always let him go for my bard main, then cast Thunderwave each time he gets close enough with his shiels of screams. Then i just push him away or use repelling balst on him. The trick that worked for me is: Just don't let Nere get too close.^^

Fantastic!
But the wielder must have a name like Serepinditous Silent Service or Slithering Succulent Sexpot to activate such a feature.

I's probably also a question of luck. I made the greatsword for Lae'zel and she shut Nere up very efficiently with it, so I was quite happy with how that turned out, and I generally had the perception that it silenced enemies quite reliably.
