cant bind undead, cant charm or dominate the ogre, if you play an indirect manipulation/ control character act 2 really sucks

Certain characters shine in certain situations, where they fall off in others. It's a team-based game, so that makes sense. Clerics specifically can CC undead, and Paladins *rock* at murdering tons of 'em. Wizards can pick and choose spells to suit every situation. For instance, Hold Person might not work, but undead still slip on Ice and Grease and so forth.

That said, in 5E, no one is a one-trick pony, not even Barbarians - and every character can switch to a different tactic to suit the situation.

I don't know if there is a specific Ogre, and I can't remember where in Act 2 you'd see one - but Ogres should be susceptible to mind controlling effects [but they're monsters, not persons]. If he's an undead ogre, that doesn't work though. Use a cleric for that.

Best Advice i can Gave yu with all my 1400 hrs played Bro..
Forget this Types of Build and Characters.. want to Controll evrybody and do what yu want Become a Charisma Based..
yu will lought a lot trust me. its like Easy Mode On.. yu allways Have a option to make the encounter easy or make then Die just by your words.. its Amazing.

And like i Said.. Forget about control..
GO with POWERRRRRR always.
Make a Sorlock and become a Demigod
Palock and Brake the entire Game.
Hexablade (FighterLock)
Bardlock works too.
but the Best Bard Build for Power in my opinion its Thief Sword School Bard..
and Mage just go full Necro or the Same school of Gale..
the Rest its just for Fun in this Game..
yu can Make a Badass Cleric too but the best one its Dark Shadow.
her full unique justiciar armor its broken.
Forgot.. another Great Mix Fighter/Hunter
But always go with Battlemaster school for any Fighter yu Play.. the rest its worthless.
3 Thief Trickery/9 Mage i use this Build a Lot on Astarion when i Have full Party..

Btw its a Party Team Game.. bu yu Can Play it Solo i did already two times..
Made the entire Thing Solo.. no companion.. i Kill all of then as Durge.

that doesnt fit who that character is. ive also already done a charisma based blaster on a different playthrough.

im playing as a full custom party, mc is a lorebard/chain pact lock. ch2 is a devotion pal, and ch3 is a casty druid, and ch4 is a thief/ battlemaster.

im not struggling. im complaining that the enemies are immune to the spells im casting on my mc, in a zone that is FULL of enemies that i should be able to manipulate.

It's one of the pitfalls of how campaign was designed and DnD's limited control spells.

Normally, a campaign will have a consistent enemy typing throughout. Thus allowing you to build characters around those enemies. However with BG3's campaign, there's Act 2 which drops a ton of plants/undead into the mix which makes various spells less/more effective (It's great for Clerics who can clean house with Turn Undead and Spirit Guardians for example)

Then on top of that you have the awkward DnD spell lists. Where you get Hold Person as a level 2 spell but only works against humanoids, while you have Hold Monster as a 5th level spell to work against the things not classified as humanoid (Including things that could be considered "Humanoid" in appearance like Gnolls and Ogres)

Same thing happens with Dominate Person as 5th level while Dominate Monster is 8th level (Thus unattainable in BG3)

Normally, this is supposed to balance out against damage spells by the difference in potency for spell slots. Fireball works against everything but to scale into higher levels you tend to need to upcast and use your precious higher level spell slots. While something like Hold Person is equally devastating at level 3 as at level 20 when using only a level 2 spell slot (Allowing a control focused character to be very potent while having more flexibility in spell usage).

But yeah... Act 2 will be awkward for controller characters. Since you don't get the more universal control spells like Hold Monster and Otto's Dance until later (Even more so for multi-classing) thanks to the level 12 cap meaning the 5th level spells are end-game ones rather than mid-game.

I could ask: "Why are you given an overpowered anti-undead weapon, right before you enter an Act full of undead enemies".

Then again who cares when you can just make them mass suicide into a Wall of Fire anyway.

Which control spells are you trying to use? As far as I'm aware most of them should work on the enemies in act 2.
The only obvious exception is hold person. But that's part of the balancing for that spell: Very powerful, but limited to a very specific type of target.

Nah, he's not wrong, many CC things don't work on undead, which are everywhere in act 2. They don't sleep, immune to fear, charm, domination, laughter; any mind affecting, really. At least, they should. Admittedly, I never tried.
