Has anyone else had this problem? It's taking a lot of the fun out of the game...especially since this game makes you close and restart to TRY to load the game. I don't have a standard CD-ROM...it's a Pioneer DVD ROM...and sometimes it take me 20 trys before the game disc will read. It's driving me crazy. It just clicks and clicks...

I never touch my discs...I am fanatical about that...so it is spotless. And I tried cleaning my DVD but nothing so far has helped. It is so FRUSTRATING!!!
thank you,
B

It doesn't want to go from anywhere...it just makes a click like it's starting over and over again trying to read the disc. click click click. I pull it out and start again, same thing. Eventually, I seem to get lucky and the disc reads. It was ESPECIALLY aggravating last night. I had a horrible time getting it to read, and when I finally did, I was in the place where Zandalor ports you...the council of seven place...and the game locked up!!!. Couldn't even CTL+ALT +DEL. I restarted, and when I did...click, click, click. After restarting finally, as soon as i got to a border in the room...Lock!!! I spent about an hour and a half last night trying to play...and about 5 minutes playing. I think when I reinstalled my game, I forgot to patch, so maybe that's why it's locking in the council of seven...but I know that has nothing to do with the disc not reading. I am EXTREMELY frustrated.

If you patch, does it destroy your saved games? Do I need to save them elsewhere first?

Thanks for any help...

Running the configuration program and switching to software mode can help with crashes in the council hall.

The hotfix will not destroy saved games. You shouldn't need to back them up first, but it couldn't hurt to be over cautious.

The type of optical drive doesn't matter. I have a DVD and CD-RW drive, and can run the game from either (except for once as a test, I use the DVD drive). Can you reliably read other disks in the drive? Maybe the drive is dying. Maybe it just has problems reading that disk or the copy protection used. Check Pioneer's web site and see if they have a firmware update available for the drive.

Yes, I just finished IWD2 with no problems whatsoever, so it does read other discs. But your idea about checking the pioneer website was a brilliant one. Funny...I remember to update my video drivers, but I never thought about anything with the DVD ROM. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again. You are certainly one of the most helpful people around.
