To be fair, familiars aren't really combat pets anyway. The best use for them I find, is to trigger AOO's, or force a [bonus] action out of an enemy - or to set someone up as threatened, so as to make a sneak attack.
Well in EA I complained about it with silence effect. The most usless weapon in BG3.
The way it should be is 1 turn till next turn because it makes no sense. So at least the effect should apply negatively for at least 1 turn on the enemy.
