This is a variation of the Monk build which I think is easy and fun to play and fulfills a lot of roles. It takes bits and pieces from different builds and philosophies to make what I think is a more rounded build.

I did this because I hated that the information on the Monk - which is easily the strongest class right now - is organized so badly everywhere.

Race: Choose Elf, Drow or Half-Orc /Astarion, Minthara, Halsin and Jaheira make good choices for this class build.

Starting Stats (You will respec later)

Strength: 8 (w Hill Giant Str Elixir 21)
Dexterity: 16
Constitution: 13 (Tavern brawler gets you to 14)
Intelligence: 10
Wisdom: 16
Charisma: 12

Background: Urchin or Outlander

Level 1: Rogue

Main Skills: Athletic, Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Perception and whatever else of the remaining.

Expertise Choices: Sleight of Hand and Perception

Level 2: Rogue

Level 3: Rogue and Choose Thief Subclass.

Level 4: Rogue and choose Tavern Brawler as your Feat – put 1 Point in Con

Note: **At some later point you could choose to respec to be 9 Monk/3 Rogue which will give you some nice AOE. (You get Ki-resonation Blast at level 9 as a Monk).
It’s not required though, and you are plenty powerful without it. As an all-around Swiss-army knife character you are better off with this build.

Level 5: Monk

Level 6: Monk

Level 7: Monk – Way of the Open Hand

Level 8: Monk – Feat ASI +2 Dex

Level 9: Monk

Level 10: Monk

Level 11: Monk

Level 12: Monk – Feat ASI + 2 Wisdom

Equipment:

Early Game: (Act1 and 2)

Head: Lifebringer, Circlet of Hunting
Cloak: Cloak of Protection
Chest: The protecty Sparkswall, The Armor of Uninhibited Kushigo, The Graceful Cloth*
Hands: Gloves of Crushing, Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle, The Sparkle Hands, Bracers of Defense
Feet: Boots of Genial Striding, The Watersparkers
Neck: Moondrop pendant, Sentient Amulet
Ring 1: Callous Glow ring, The Sparkswall
Ring 2: Shadow Cloaked ring
Bow: The Joltshooter or2 x Hand crossbows + 1/Neer Miss.
Optional: The Real Sparkly Sparkeswall (Shield)

**If you decide to use Lightening Charges then you should fully commit to the items you need, for the Lulz.**

Late Game (Act 3)

Head: Helldusk Helmet
Cloak: Cloak of Displacement, Cloak of Protection,
Chest: The Graceful Cloth, Helldusk Armor
Hands: The Gloves of Soul Catching, Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength*
Feet: Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo
Neck: Khalid’s Gift, Amulet of Greater Health**
Ring 1: Callous Glow Ring, Ring of Twilight
Ring 2: Shadow Cloaked Ring
Bow: Hellrider Longbow

**Note: Once you get the Amulet of greater health you can respec and put Constitution into Charisma and become the face of the party.

The Strength of this build:

1. High initiative
2. High damage/control/lots of attacks
3. VERY high perception and Sleight of hand
4. Very good AC, high health, extremely tanky.
5. Flexibility – you can make party face late game by dumping Con into Chr with the Amulet of Greater Health
6. Access to multiple damage types
7. Resistant to a lot of statuses and effects
8. Just a ton of fun to play. You solve problems by punching them in the face, until they stop being problems.
9. You can solo tactician with this build.
10. Can fulfill the roles for a front line damage, Party face and very high end rogue all at once.

'different builds and philosophies'

Go tell yourself that, but.. This is just a regular monk-with-extra-bonus-actions that cheeses the overuse of strength pots. Really good, I mean, really, really good and lots of fun - but nothing new here. People have been doing this is August 3rd.

Having said this, I'd say that Githyanki are actually the best at this. No one is more swiss-army than the Gith with their skill boost, and their jump capabilities is off the charts. Medium armor proficiencies so you can easily swap out boots all game long, plus swords for swapping in and out.

Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

I wrote this up, not because it's original, but because the information on the Monk build that is out there is written and organized badly. Let me know if you have questions on why I wrote this up.
