I admit I'm a filthy savescummer- right now I'm in Moonrise Towers Act 2, and entered a restricted area. I was given the option to convince the guard I belong there. I failed all my rolls so, to avoid a huge fight, reloaded my save to a point before I ever even opened the door and entered the restricted area.
Well, suddenly the option to convince the guard i belong there is gone from the convo upon reload. I have the options to go to jail, bribe him, or attack.
Reload again. Same as above, except now all NPCs in the area aggro as soon as the guard dialogue pops up.
Reload AGAIN. No dialogue options at all, just immediate aggro from all enemies in area including the guard.
Is this supposed to happen? Like, my save is from several minutes prior to even being in the same screen as the guard. I seriously don't know why it isn't also saving the option to trick him and convince him I can be there. I don't know why each subsequent reload reduces all my options until I'm forced to fight or lose the whole save. Is it actually supposed to do this?
I'm playing on Explorer mode btw, not Honor or anything.

Is your save an autosave, quicksave or a hard save? Usually when I load a hard save, it puts me exactly where I was, so I have not experienced what you are describing. Can you let us know which restricted area you are in: There are restricted areas on the upper floors, on the same level and above Balthazar and Ketheric's Rooms There's a restricted area in the basement Prison, center tower There's a restricted area by the docks
Is your entire party in battle, or just one character? If you don't have a previous save and do not want to battle, look at the top of the aggroed guards, and check and see if it says "Temporarily Hostile." If it does, you always have the option to disengage, dash, and have your entire party flee. If that doesn't work, just let them take your character to jail (then try and break out).

The restricted area is the hallway that contains locked doors leading to Ketheric's, Isobel's and Balthazar's private rooms. I saved my game while in the area just outside to the left of this restricted area- the place where you talk to Z'rell and Radija. Literally no one was aggroed, this was before I attacked a single NPC in the tower. I saved my game right after talking to Radija. What I don't understand is why, the more I reloaded the save to try to fix the dialogue not showing up again with the guard, the more the save file changed, until I was reloading into immediate aggro from every NPC on the screen.

Literally no one was aggroed, this was before I attacked a single NPC in the tower. I saved my game right after talking to Radija. If you attack an NPC, this counts as assault if another guard witnesses this. If you saved after speaking to Radija, you saved after you already aggroed them. This encounter has never happened for me, because I normally sneak into Moonrise towers from the East outside walls. I lockpick into Ketheric and Balthazar's rooms, then from their rooms, I enter the hallway and kill the guards and the scrying eyes. I also kill the Ogre in Zrell's office, then walk out and silence and kill Radija.
It's much easier to kill the opponents off 1-2 at a time, than when they're alerted and you have the entire floor coming after you.

I did not attack a single NPC at all in Moonrise Towers before talking to that guard. No one was aggroed in the entire tower. Does talking to Radija count as aggroing someone? That makes no sense.
Here is the sequence of events:
-I go upstairs to the top of the tower and trigger the cutscene with Z'rell -I talk to Radija and the Necromite NPCs -Save immediately after -I try to enter the room with doors to private chambers and the guard stops me with a "you better have a good reason to be back here" -I get the following options with the guard: Go to jail; Convince them you belong here; Pay a bribe; Attack; Leave -I try to convince them I belong there; I fumble every roll -Reset my save -Go back over to trigger the guard encounter -Following options available: Go to jail, Pay a bribe; Attack; Leave -What happened to convincing them?? Reload to when I just finished speaking to Radija -Suddenly Radija and Necromite NPCs are hostile as soon as the save loads in. They were not hostile when I originally saved and were not hostile the first time I reloaded -Guard options did not change -Reload -As soon as save loads in Radija, Necromites AND guard are immediately hostile- no option to talk to guard
I just want to know if this is normal. My save state did not involve a single aggroed NPC in the entire tower. I attacked 0 NPCs around the entire tower. My save game just altered itself each time I tried to reload.

You do not need to attack anyone to aggro guards/npc. You can aggro guards with any of the following: - Having a guard or NPC witness a Theft/Stealing.
- NPC finds evidence of items being looted/stolen (I looted Priestess Gut's room without anyone seeing, she then goes into the room and immediately notices things were taken and blamed it on me)
- Lockpicking or opening a chest with a red border, in front of a guard/NPC
- Lockpicking or entering a door with a red border, in front of a guard/NPC
^ Basically if they witness your crime, have evidence of your crime, or see anything you are not supposed to be doing, they will call you out for it. From what I can tell, the AI is behaving correctly. If you want the save state to go back to normal, you need a save file before you spoke to any NPCs, and preferably before you entered that floor.

My save game just altered itself each time I tried to reload. It's not normal, but it is interesting. I've only had dialogue bug out into the good old "1. Continue" a couple times after a reload.

My cousin reached the same spot as you last night. This is what happened: He went up the stairs from the throne room and Zrell, Rajida, Neophytes, and an Ogre were standing in the room the left. There was an open door going forward with 1 guard and a scrying eye, and an open door going to the right with 2 guards. The door going forward had a red border, and was restricted.
When he went left, he got a cutscene with Z'Rell telling Radija along the lines of: "Do not let anyone up on the upper floors" Radija then answers "Does that include you, Z'Rell?" Z'rell then reads my cousin's character's mind and wants to know what he did with the goblins. Instead of deceiving/persuading her, he just attacks her and this aggroed every guard on first and second floors. He dies to them, then goes back to a save BEFORE entering the second floor and the Z'Rell cutscene.
This time, he sneaked through the door on the right, the Z'Rell cutscene did not play and none of the guards were aggroed. A guard then stops him. He succeeds the persuasion check, and the guard tells him he's off the hook this time but if he gets caught again he won't be so lucky. He then gets caught a second time and this time he had the option to 1. go to jail; 2. pay a bribe; 3. pay another amount 4. attack. So he rolls back to before entering the second floor.
This time he walked forward through the red-bordered door, the Z'Rell cutscene did not play, none of the guards were aggroed. However he did get a short scene with a guard going: You have entered a restricted area, you better have a good reason for being here."
You mentioned the Z'Rell cutscene played for you, and then you saved after speaking to Radija. Z'Rell tells Radija not to let anyone on the upper floors, so because you saved after speaking to Radija, I believe you did save the aggro on to the file just by being on the second floor. If you enter the upper floors/enter areas with red doors, I believe it automatically counts as trespassing. If you hover over the doorframes, it'll show you red or white. If it's white, it means it's safe to enter. I told my cousin to let them take him to jail, so the guards arrest him and ONLY his main character was taken. The other three were still free. Once in jail, I had him jump through the green hole in the ground, and that took him to the Oubliette (blood lake miasma underneath Moonrise). Please note that if you are taken to jail, the guards will take all your weapons and items in your inventory, and you need to retrieve it from the evidence box xD.
Check and see if you can use a waypoint to have your characters regroup. If you can, great. If you can't, grab some weapons from your other character's inventories and equip them on the character that got jailed. Making your way out of the oubliette, you'll need to fight 2 hook horrors.
^If you still have the option to go to jail, I think this may be the easiest way for you to keep your save file without too difficult of a fight.
