My PC frequently crashes when playing BG3. After the crash the PC reboots and can't find the harddrive. If I wait for an hour and turn the PC back on it works just fine. This all seems to be an overheating issue.

My PC is already five years old so it might be time for an upgrade.

My specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz (12 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Motherbord: TUF Z370-PLUS GAMING II
Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (8GB)
Harddrive: SSD 500 GB

I'm thinking the first priority should be getting a new CPU. Anyone got any thoughts? Or should this system be sufficiënt to run BG3?

Sorry to hear about your overheating issues. However, you system should be ok to run the game in full HD (assuming that is your screen resolution). Have you tried limiting the FPS in the video options? Set it to a fixed rate of 30 and see if the PC still crashes. If not, gradually increase the FPS. This game does not really need super high FPS to enjoy. You might also want to reduce the quality settings. If they are currently set to ultra, try high for example. I tried 3 PCs so far from a mini-PC with an integrated GPU to an i5 system with a RX480 and on my main PC with a 6700XT and it can run on all of them (with different FPS and quality settings of course). I assume your GPU and overall system drivers are up-to-date?

The cannot find the HD is what is catching my eye. This could an overhead of the motherboard or possible a drive issue.
