I see people still posting ideas for game modifications and expansions but my concern is we are nearing the end of BG3 changes. Larian mas done quite a bit of work, in my opinion in the wrong places, but still a lot of effort. I think we might see one or two more bug fixes, I mean come on let's make shield bash work please. However I think any changes or real additions we are near the end of seeing.

Larian has been pretty clear that they are not going to make a DLC. I still hold a little hope for perhaps an adventure pack but even that seems unlikely.

What do you think, realistically will we see Larian put any more real effort into "upgrading" the game or are we down to a few more bug fixes and that is it?

You don't think there will be a Definitive Edition? That seems to be their thing rather than DLC. I doubt they'll add as much content as they did with DOS2 - which IMHO was in a much worse state - but there will probably be some. We know a few more, small additions are still forthcoming, probably in a patch rather than a DE though.

I don't know, the last interview doesn't necessarily show the will to bring something "big" like a DLC.
Larian is working on a new game, so there is probably more focus.

We know from datamined files they are actively working on a few things, so there is hopefully at least one bigger patch and the definitive edition coming.

We also know there are a few things, which are common complaints from fans: Minthara not having enough content, Halsin coming across as way too horny, act three being a mess etc. If they are working on these it's probably a bigger task, reserved for later.

But to be honest, I'd be happy if they managed to fix at least some of the bugs.

We'll probably get a couple more patches of bug fixes. Maybe a Definitive Edition somewhere down the line.

The game isn't a live service, so they don't have too much incentive to spend money working on it (It also already won GotY).

At some point they'll shift their focus onto their next title.

The best thing that could happen, IMO, is for Larian to move on from BG3, and then for the gaming world to also move on from BG3.

Even with a studio working on a new game, there will still be teams working on bugs and performance. And they probably have some content stuff in the pipe to be finished up. The VA's have been doing their goodbyes to the characters.

But players keep coming up with ideas for *major* new content additions, like new companions and races and classes -- and I really doubt that any of that will happen. The game doesn't need it, as pleasant as it would be to get.

I hope that it’s not nearing the end, because act 3 is not anywhere near as good as the first two acts. Needs more companion reactivity and polish.

I would suspect that any new patches will be limited to bug fixes and/or small tweaks to interface and options. Perhaps there could be a chance of some cut content being restored, however I'd wager that any existing concerns with story lines, plot holes or game mechanics are probably here to stay.

Edit: All assumption on my part -- watch a mega-expansion drop in 2024. laugh

I think they absolutely have to give us some form of Expansion, whatever name they want to slap on that. I feel like calling it a Definitive Edition or something similar would be kinda poor form, just since the implies finality, and I'd rather see a game that can keep going for a few years... or just forever hehe.

I mean they just took the triple crown and all that. There are many people playing right now and having a good time with it. At this point, if peeps don't dig what's on offer at all, then of course they should move on. Like why waste the time on something that's not doing it for ya, but I suspect that lots of people will still kick around and float ideas for what they'd like to see. Or for general critique and criticism. Or I don't know, maybe these boards just end up like graffiti in the subway, but they could use it as a more of a resource if they wanted to.

I'd prefer just Baldur's Gate III: (with a subtitle) in the same way we had "Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast" for BG1, or Throne of Bhaal after BG2, to wrap it up with a nice red ribbon like that, and give us a proper big ass interconnected dungeon crawler for the anticlimax. Then just a lot of support for modding to carry it along as far as it can go.

What made BG1/2 special to me was the customization. So the ability for the end user to import custom portraits, custom sounds and custom scripts. The base game was cool and all, but that was the stuff that gave it staying power.

Even after ToB, the sequel had a good 5 years running just off the novelty of Mods and playing the first BG1 game using the newer BG2 engine. If we ever get a BG4 from this same studio, then it would be particularly cool if they could do something similar here with the long view, since that's part of the charm. Import/Export Character, but once they call the curtain, then it's down to mods. That can either be an overwhelming all you can eat buffet, or slim pickings, depending on how hard it is to go under the hood, but that should get easier with time, whereas right now patches and hotfixes make exploring mods a bit rough. A year in the kitchen at Nexus has still been pretty impressive though. I've enjoyed the game at release much more than during the EA, but it's still behind what I had imagined in terms of party comp and char creation options, so more of that would top my list, but I'd really like to see more continuing adventures in this format with continuing adventures!

I’ve seen a couple of Larian employees over on twitter say that they have much more in store for the game, whether that be new content or otherwise so I can expect to see some new things coming. Think there was a video too from a dev saying the same thing so I don’t think it’s the end, but I’m not sure where their priorities lie.

There’s also a lot of talk about content that has been datamined that allude to new content but I’m not sure if it’s just for romances (kiss animations, dialogue, etc).

Not sure why people think Larian is soon done supporting the game, when in reality the game is nowhere near close to being done as it is still being treated as a fully released Early Access with tons of stuff still coming.

Apart from Larian stating that they're working on new stuff even in their own patch notes, one of the developers also tweeted something they probably shouldn't have about some juicy content coming, which they have deleted since soon after (there are videos that still show the tweet though). Tons of dialogue are also being actively adjusted and added, which is why since Update #5 so many are breaking, interrupting or not working at all.

Personally I won't be satisfied until all the bugs are fixed, especially the story elements which do not connect properly (doing one thing, but the game thinking we did another or not even properly reacting to it). At the very least the issues have to be fixed, but this is Larian and they love their games. Working silently towards a Definitive Edition is a step that makes most sense.

Why do I think one is coming? Well apart from all the issues currently plaguing the game that need to be fleshed out and numerous bugs, Karlach herself is on none of the promo material for the game, not even the in-game loading screen. Hell, she's not even on the forum banner at the very top of the forums or anywhere else for that matter.

The game won't be done until Karlach gets her rightful spot on the promo materials, which is going to happen once the Definitive Edition is ready which would then be the game's actual full release just like DOS2 was.

It’s from a while back during the Game Awards I think. I couldn’t find the rest of the tweets or the video, but there’s this tweet from the senior cinematic artist

Yeah, I don't think things will be done until a full definitive edition is released.

I'm *really* hoping their next project is a surprise NWN3. That would keep me excited about this thing called life.

I would be delighted with a big expansion. But there is a fine line between capitalizing on sales, awards, and good will and milking a property.

We really don't need BG3 releasing 14 differently named versions culminating in a BG3 for Samsung refrigerators.

My guess is that there will be a Definitive Edition and/or a few more patches at least! Hopefully they can add and fix stuff for Halsin!!!

Even if they have started on their next project, they might only need a small team at first, so the rest have time to work on BG3 until they are needed on the new project!

BG3 is back at the top of the Steam best seller list, so lots of new people are still buying it!
