I just had a weird circumstance where talking to Jaheira at the Last Light Inn (in Act 2) during my ongoing Honor run prompted me with the option to tell her that Marcus, a flaming fist upstair, was "planning to kidnap isobel"... And I had to convince Jaheira I wasn't fooling around, because she trusted the man since he was one of their people for a while.
She also urged me to rush upstair and save Isobel before it was too late.

Which is weird because...
- Marcus already did his notorious attempt at kidnapping Isobel more than 10 hours ago in my game and he's been dead since then.
- as far as I'm aware the game doesn't even give you any chance to meet with/talk to Marcus before he appears in that scene/event, so I'm not sure what Jaheira was even going on about.
- I don't remember this option even appearing before in my previous games and I'm not sure why these lines even exist, given the previous point.

Yeah it's a bugged dialogue trigger which should only be available to those who raided the Grove, but for some reason everyone seems to be getting it, usually after the events at Shadowfell. I also got it yesterday as well.

As for why the lines exist; Marcus is the one who convinces Jaheira to spare the player if the Grove has been raided, since Mol is dead. So instead of him swooping in once Isobel is met for the first time, he is instead at the Inn from the very beginning and then goes to wait upstairs for the player to meet him before talking to Isobel. Has some unique dialogue and slightly changes that part of the story.

Yeah... I never once raided the Grove and I still got that dialogue on my last play-through. I always thought it was because there might be a way to get to Moonrise before you get to Last Light and to meet/observe/overhear Marcus there somehow before you ever meet Jaheira. But ... that would probably be impossible since you wouldn't be able to withstand the shadow-curse if you went straight to Moonrise (no blessing from Isobel and certainly no Moonlantern/Pixie-blessing).

I no longer remember that playthough, but I had the same weird dialogue about Marcus "being upstairs with Isobel" while I had killed him already ...

You can get to Moonrise before Last Light Inn if you accompany your Friendly Local Drider Guide and beat off the ambush by ... bandits :P

BTW - I wonder if it is possible to get to Moonrise Towers without either pixie lantern or Selune's blessing - by way of the pier?

Yes there are numerous ways to get to Moonrise without a Moonlantern or Isobel's blessing, Karlach even has an inspiration for visiting both Last Light and Moonrise without any protection.

  • The simplest way is by going to the river's most southern point by the Tollhouse and just teleporting (via spells or scrolls) straight to the dock's protection auras
  • Another is to equip Loviatar's mace from ACT 1 (which grants Necrotic resistance) and just running for it while chugging health potions
  • Another is by using a tripple-jump ritual spell with a Strength character and jumping to the Moonrise portal. Takes like 2 turns for my Lae'zel since she is full STR with Athlete feat, so she can jump over planets.

Getting there is also quite simple because Isobel's blessing is just a mere light spell which applies to all party members, so exact same result is achieved by simply equipping a mere torch or having a Cleric (Shadowheart) cast Light on any character. The glow is wide enough to protect the entire party.

And at Moonrise is Balthazar's Moonlantern, but I prefer always taking the Drider's because I can't be bothered carrying around a silly torch and switching weapons. The pixie is the best thing ever.

Yup - I don't bother with torches but use Light.

Yeah, the "low tier" of the Shadow Curse is trivially easy to fend off as long as you cast at least one Light Cantrip on a character and keep everyone close enough.
Never tried to deal with the second one without a proper protection, on the other hand.

@Tuco -same.

BTW - as Moonlanterns go - is it possible to release the Pixie powering Balthazar's lamp?

Another way to get to Moonrise without going to Last Light Inn first is to go in through the mountain pass with a Spider Lyre in your inventory (from Minthara or from Neir, they both drop one on death). Almost the first thing you encounter then is a tiny goblin camp where you can kill the 4/5 goblins (or not depending on player choice), play the lyre and the drider turns up, you can persuade him to hand over the lantern or you can just kill him and take it. Don't need to bother with even talking to Isobel once you eventually go to Last Light, pixie light is more than sufficient to see you and your party safely to the end of Act 2 and you don't need to hold anything.

I think there is only the one pixie that you can release from whichever version of the drider you happen to encounter first. I tried with Baltahazars on one playthrough and couldn't.
