Hi,

I'm stuck again. Help,Help I'm doing the 3rd. crystal fragment part. The children went down the well and we followed after them. My hero killed the mutant but there wasn't a crystal!!!! What do I do now? I can't get into the mine shaft either. I tried this three times and got the same result. I have a problem if I can't get this to work. Of course since it's midnight I may not be thinking too clearly.
I'm going to be away until Tuesday. Family stuff in Florida. Catch all of you then.

Thanks for the help as always,

Shelli

If the alt key does not help (the mutant should drop the crystal and a unique saber), this problem is fixable by temporarily swapping a file from a working save. You are the second person to run into this, that I know of, so I'll post instructions before you get back (if I remember).

Did you try reverting to a slightly older save, if available (such as just before being summoned)?

You could try deleting the files in the dynamic folders, then reloading a previous save, though that was not the problem in the other save I looked at.
dynamic folders;
'..\Beyond Divinity\Acts\Act1\Dynamic', '..\Beyond Divinity\Acts\Act2\Dynamic', etc.
These folders are used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied to those folders when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Beyond Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in those folders, deleting the files should fix the problem.

Hi,

I'll give it a try when I get back. With my "luck" it won't work. Any other help would be appreciated.

Talk to you Tues.

If the mutant in the well does not drop a crystal fragment, it can be obtained by file swapping within the saved game folder (each saved game is a separate subfolder in the '..\Beyond Divinity\savegames' folder).

Note: the world.* files keep track of quest opened locations as well as items on the ground. You must backup your original file at the start of the procedure, and restore it near the end. At this late point in the act there is a lower chance of destroying quest items or breaking quests, but it is still better to limit mixing of files from different saves.

Procedure;

1 ) Download (866 KB) the zipped world file from my save and extract it to a temporary location.

2 ) After killing the mutant in the well, save your game under a new name, lets say 'well 1', for the sake of reference.

3 ) Create a subfolder in this saved game folder, and move that world.x0 file into it. You must restore this file at the end of the procedure.

4 ) Move my world.x0 file from the temporary location into the 'well 1' game folder.

5 ) Re-load the 'well 1' game, so that it is updated. The crystal fragment and unique cutlass dropped by the mutant in my game are now on the ground in yours.

6 ) Pick up the crystal fragment to trigger a cut scene, and take the sword if you wish.

7 ) Optionally, enter the just revealed mine entrance to rescue the other people.

8 ) Either right away (if you want to skip the rescue) or after clearing the lower level and coming back up, save the game with your characters standing away from the mine shaft entrance on the first level of the well. Call this save something like 'well 2'.

9 ) Copy the original world.x0 from the subfolder in the 'well 1' saved game into the 'well 2' saved game, overwriting the file there.

10 ) Re-load the 'well 2' game. The mine shaft and the area containing the prisoner will then be re-sealed.

11 ) Exit the well, and explore the town if you wish, then leave town or try to re-enter the well to continue the game.

Which mutant? The mutant in the Well in the Imp Town? Where you rescue that kid and find the battlefield key? That mutant didn't drop anything for me and i'm now almost at the end of Act II (2 BFs and 1 main Q left).

Does it mean i'm screwed? Should I do file swapping? With the fact that also all of a sudden ACTII BF monsters stopped attacking (they just stand still) and that I can't get the rock dialogue to open entrance to the cave up, I feel like i should just stop playing the game... with this many bugs it's just not the worth the effort...

And yes, I have the patch installed.

The mutant in the garbage pit in the imp village does not drop anything you need, but does guard some treasure, as you found.
The mutant referred to in this topic is in a well in a small village that the necromancer teleports you to late in act 2.

I thought the problem a few people ran into with monsters not attacking was fixed in the patch.
In a previous version there was a bug with finding the cure ingredients and moving them in your inventory before talking to the alchemist. That would trigger a quest log update prematurely, and prevent the cut scene at the rock covering the mushroom cave. There is a fix for this, however;

[*] Complete all other quests and save the game.
[*] If you have a save before finding the alchemist's ingredients and moving them, copy the 2 story.* files from that save into your latest save, otherwise you can use these files from a save at the beginning of the imp village.
[*] Talk to Altoflix in the north of the village (if required), then the chieftain's son to get the quest to find the alchemist, talk to the alchemist once (only) and head to the cave.
[*] Continue with the game.

Hi,

Thank you for the help. I did what your instructions said to do. I go down the well, the crystal and sword are there, as I touch them they disappeared. I am at a total lose as what to do next. Do you have any other ideas?
I'm sorry to keep bothering you with this but this is more than I am capabile of figuring out.

Thank you a million times,

Shelli

The crystal is suppose to disappear when you click on it (and then trigger a cut scene), but you should be able to take the sword.
Do you have the patch installed? If not, maybe it is a version conflict?

Hi,

I didn't get the cut scene. I have the patch in, maybe I should do it again?
Is there some way to "force" the scene so I can go on with the game?
Any other thoughts will be appreciated.

Thank you again,

Shelli

If you already have the patch, then it is not a version conflict.
Unfortunately, there is no way to force the cut scene to be triggered, that I know of.

Hi,

I put the patch in again, did the Dynamics folder ( the saves woundn't load after I deleted the folder). I found my saved game and compressed it but being as stupid as I am, I don't know where it went, to be able to send it to you. This is getting to the point of not being worth all the trouble!!
Please let me know what to do next. I'm sorry I'm being such a pain in the neck.
I appreciate all the help you are giving me.

You can delete the files in the dynamic folders, but not the folders themselves.

Following is an updated procedure for getting the crystal fragment. At least in Ferettmom's save both the world.x0 and objects.x0 file need to be swapped, since the crystal and sword both disappear when the mouse cursor is moved over them with just the world.x0 file. This may be due to a problem with that save, or a conflict between versions, since I started my game in an earlier version and installed patches as they were released.

At least in this case, the inventory may be the source of the problem. If I place the 6 *.inv files from my save standing at the well into Ferettmom's save, load that save and kill the mutant, it drops the crystal.

If you have both teleporter stones with you, you can do all of the file swapping at once, rather than having to swap files, clear the lower level then swap the original files back. I will describe this method below.

Procedure;

1 ) Download (1 MB) the zipped world and objects file from my save and extract them to a temporary location. This is the same link as above, I just updated the zip file.

2 ) After killing the mutant in the well, save your game under a new name, lets say 'well 1', for the sake of reference.

3 ) Create a subfolder in this saved game folder, and move your world.x0 and objects.x0 files into it. You must restore these files at the end of the procedure.

4 ) Move my world.x0 and objects.x0 files from the temporary location into the 'well 1' game folder.

5 ) Re-load the 'well 1' game, so that it is updated. The crystal fragment and unique cutlass dropped by the mutant in my game are now on the ground in yours.

6 ) Pick up the crystal fragment to trigger a cut scene, and optionally take the sword.

7 ) If you wish to rescue the other people, have one character stand as close as possible to the just revealed mine entrance, south of it and to the west, while the other stays back.

8 ) Save the game, named something like 'well 2'.

9 ) Copy the original world.x0 and objects.x0 files from the subfolder in the 'well 1' saved game into the 'well 2' saved game, overwriting the files there.

10 ) Re-load the 'well 2' game. The mine shaft and the area containing the prisoner will then be re-sealed.

11 ) If you are going to rescue the others, have the character standing in the central part of the well drop a teleporter stone, then switch to the other character and have them enter the mineshaft, which will be now obscured by a rock wall. After clearing the lower level and coming back up, you will have to click on the teleporter stone in your inventory to get past the wall, then (don't forget this) pick up the teleporter stone on the ground.

12 ) Exit the well, and explore the town if you wish, then leave town or try to re-enter the well to continue the game.
