Really curious to know! If you had to pick one as your favorite, who would you pick?

Who is your favorite character?

Raphael and Gortash would be my picks, but since it's companions only, I picked Astarion. astarionhappy Second choice would've been Halsin.

Honorable mentions to minor characters Rolan, Abdirak, and Rugan for other favorites. RIP Rugan's cut content; we'll never get to have those drinks together. That's where imagination comes in, I suppose. Abdirak had a lot of potential as well! Surprising they made a one-off character so memorable. The game really could've been something spectacular if they'd gone at the remainder of it with the same gusto they had with Act 1 and some of 2, and maybe they did once, but I understand abruptly having to rewrite the bulk of the story is going to have a serious impact on the whole project. At least Rolan got his conclusion, lol.

Shadowheart ?

Everytime I do a new run and think I'm going to look at the romance path of a different companion, it lasts all of 2 minutes because I rescue Shadowheart from the pod and I'm like, "Oh yeah, Shadowheart best girl" and go back to her.

Yes, Shadowheart is lovable, although I wish there was an option to let her remove her hair dye, but I think Lae'zel is more interesting. Perhaps it is because you get to meet her first, but she always feels like the quintessential companion.

All best put down like the mad dogs they are.
I voted Karlach as she is the least obnoxious of the lot.

In Order: Jaheira, Minsc first. They are just well done. Not angsty in the slightest, no big reveal overly telegraphed secret... Just, well done. It's sad you can't get then in Act 1 so you can choose to not recruit a few.

Then, Gale and Lae'Zel. They're good. They fit within the main story really well. In act, without LaeZel the whole main plot falls flat on its own face. They also don't come with an over-the-top 'designed for a certain audience' syndrome, making them a little more natural.
Then, Shadowheart, although her story *seems* to once have been an integral part of the main story, that part is over by the end of Act 1. She's kind of weird in her romance, where on one hand she states she likes short term flings and has all this innuendo at every single moment.... But then is actually the 'type that lets you wait.'

Then, Karlach and Astarion. They can be fun. But, I don't care for them. Astarion is *very, very much* written for the straight girls with a domination kink. Aside from that, he's jsut.... there. he has nothing to do unless you romance him, and I can't really bring myself to taht level. I've tried, but... hell no. His whole Vampire thing doesn't matter - you can ignore it completely and be jsut fine. Karlach is the, the toxically masculine lesbian. Ugh, she even bangs you like she's the dude. That is *literally* fucking weird. Anyway. Essentially a swearing teenager, mood swings and all, that was notably put in at the last minute but not given nearly the time she needed.

All the way down is Wyll and Halsin. I can't see how this was the *rewrite* for Wyll. God, he is boring. His voice is like it was a transcript from a phone book and he never 8ever* has something worthwile to say. Halsin is just WRONG. I wish there was a way to save him, but tell him to stay back in the Grove and let me handle things.

I love Gale and Halsin!

every development of Gale's story is pure magic and the romance with him is the most beautiful thing you can expect from someone

Lae'zel. She's just this militant alien that wants to love but doesn't understand how. She's loyal, to a fault, even. There's no falsehood in her.

I have run a playthrough without Laezel or doing the githyanki questline. It mattered little when it came to the main plot. Tbh, I'd not bother to recruit her anymore, since I suspect it is the same when it comes to not having Laezel in the creche.

I think the only companions that have any real impact are Gale (additional endings) and Shadowheart (you cannot chose the evil path end of act two without her in the party).

I like Gale, I get along with the guy, I identify with him to some extent. As for female characters, I don't have any that I fully like, haha. They all have some detail that displeases me except for Jaheira.

It doesn't *change* anything, but you have no motivation to set Orpheus free, either.

For my own surprise, Lae'Zel turned out to be my favorite companion, in terms of character arc.

For what is worth, Shadowheart on the other hand became the default love interest because I'm not into froggy girls. Can't say I was particularly hooked with the "romance" side of the game, thought.

I, too, can't help but catch a whiff of resemblance between myself and Gale. A wizarding prodigy who found the greatest love of all in the form of a goddess. He's young and handsome, but possessed with the soul of a politician that causes him to blow it at the most crucial of times.

It's like I'm looking in the mirror.

Quite the opposite. On my first playthrough, I was really interested in exploring the githyanki questline, but frankly there is very little to discover about Orpheus as a character. Considering who Gith was, it remained an open question whether Orpheus is possibly the change Voss claimed he'd be, and whether it's even a good idea to free him.

On my Lae-free playthrough my character ended up in conflict with the emperor, so it was simply a matter of finding an alternative which would allow her to get rid of him.

In retrospect, I'd say Lae'zel and her questline mirror the issues with the main plot; there have been just too many changes, and it shows.

On my first playthrough I drank Lae'zel dry (the narration said she smelled tasty and she insisted on controlling the tadpole not being an option) after she told us about the creche, so we checked it out to learn more about the artefact with one of the group disguised as a githyanki. It was weirdly fun but did not have nearly the emotional intensity as visiting the creche with Lae'zel. It also brought me the questionable pleasure of having to deal with Vlaakith's troups without Voss's gadget. (Do not recommend, especially if it is your first playthrough and they really surprise you.) Like for @Saeran, this playthrough also ended with freeing Orpheus, simply because I wanted an alternative to the Emperor.

I too like dear Gale best, not because I identify with him, but because I simply really like him. Some things about him remind me of a good friend of mine.

I end up taking Shadowheart every time. She has a really good story arc and I really enjoy her snarky side comments while exploring.

I also love Lae’zel’s character development throughout the game, also her side banter and rivalry with Shadowheart.

I don’t take Gale every time, but I miss him when I don’t.

I never understood the love for Astarion, but playing now as a Dark Urge, I get it. Should definitely take him along for any Dark Urge run.

I voted for Shadowheart, but it could’ve been any of the above. Although my real favorite is Raphael!
