Perhaps not all, but the vast majority of DnD players I know enjoy collecting dice to some degree IRL. BG3 obviously supports different dice skins, and we have... four(?) in total, of which half are only available to those who have bought the collectors' edition of the game. It's ofc. great that they're working on fixing bugs and more important stuff, but I couldn't imagine it would take an artist more than a few minutes to create a new solid colour die skin. By altering base and text colour they could easily have enough plain dice to give them out like candy, for example each time a boss is defeated, when a storyline is completed, or when an achievement is unlocked. Assuming they use something similar to BSFD shaders it would likely be trivial to also make metallic dice very easily. And some simple textures for 2 or 3-coloured dice would increase the number of possible combinations even further.

I assume they're going to want to sell dice as DLC, though I'm pretty sure people would pay extra for dice with special shader effects, such as transparency, lights, fire, etc. even if they give out the plain ones for "free" (I mean, we're paying customers, it's not a f2p game). I just hope they keep the prices reasonable, after all you can buy pretty nice physical dice for around €0.5 - €2 each.

Recently I was pondering about the idea of how awesome it would be if each companion had their very own uniquely themed dice that captures their essence, obtained as a reward for completing their personal quests.

So if anything that's the only thing I'd personally want to see, not paid dice whatsoever because thankfully Larian isn't milking their fanbase like other companies.

That's a great idea for companions, small achievements like this is what adds flavor to the overall experience.

Those really put the built-in dice to shame, but unfortunately I haven't had much luck with mods so far.. The mod manager for Linux seems to be a bit of work-in-progress (though based on what I've read it seems like several Windows users have issues with their mod managers too) and it took me a while to get it working. And when I finally got the dice mod, and the ImprovedUI mod which it required, then waypoint teleportation broke. Maybe it would be possible to debug and fix somehow but that doesn't sound very appealing. It would just be much more convenient if it was a part of the game, and at least in my opinion it would be more fun to unlock new dice by doing things in the game instead of instantly having them all available.

I definitely agree. Currently I'm only able to use the default and solid blue one which I don't prefer the look of. I think it would be nice to be able to collect uniquely shaded/colored dice after completing or experiencing certain quests, like companion quests, main quests, and side quests like the goblins/tieflings/druids etc., or just plain ol' solid colored ones like IRL! Being able to use them in different playthroughs would also be amazing. I understand mods for them exist but currently I am deciding to not use mods for my first few playthroughs so it'd be cool to see Larian implement this in the future.

Well, that's just disgusting.

as a console player I wish I could use mods I was able to mod out skyrim and fallout to crazy levels on my XBox we really need that ability more.

However the dice skins are a really good idea I spent hours browsing D20 sets for my brothers birthday I'd love to be able to swap them to something different in game.
