After spending hours carefully navigating act 2 to recruit Jaheira, imagine my horror when, after successfully killing Ketheric and the Prophet, she immediately decides to leave the group permanently after invoking irreconcilable differences.

Imagine my surprise then, when she is then sitting in my camp in act 3, as if nothing has happened.

Imagine my disappointment that, despite her being in my camp and saying she'll join me, she just sits there and doesn't actually join.

On my quests, it also says she's left and the harpers aren't allies.

I went back to my saves in act 2, the earliest of which was on the rooftop before entering the flayer colony just after I'd recruited Jaheira. I tried so many different ideas to get around her leaving me. I tried killing her in the Ketheric fight so she was asleep and long resting, I tried sending her through the portal without my Tav, I tried resurrecting her, taking her to another waypoint and long resting, I tried doing water on the caustic acid on the steps in the castle in case Isobel stood on it.

Despite all of this, to me this just seems like a huge bug which has really upset me given how much care I put into act 2 and 140+ hours on this playthrough so far to try and get an almost completionist run.

Is anyone at Larian or in this community able to provide me with a workaround or fix to this, or is Jaheira now just going to be taking up a tent in my camp for the rest of the game with no purpose?

PLEASE help, this has really upset me and putting me off continuing and I have seen MANY other people on here and on Reddit with the same issue.

Thanks

Having read your "description" a few times, I still have no clear idea as to what you wanted to do but couldn't, or what you believe is broken. However, I'm pretty sure one thing you did was not what I would do: "I tried killing her in the Ketheric fight..." - I would not try to break bones of an NPC in order to recruit this NPC.

I tried killing her so I could resurrect her after speaking to Isobel to see if that helped, because some people said this worked for them.

It didn't for me.

This was one of dozens of workarounds I tried and nothing did.

She is now in my camp (after she said she was leaving) and even if I say to join me, she says 'ok' but doesn't actually join. What's also weird is whenever I talk to her, the rest of my party is in the background like a cut scene almost.

Anyway, I can't see how this isn't a bug and HIGHLY annoying because of the implications in Act 3.

I've finished 4 playthroughs, including Tactician and Honour Mode. In every single one of my runs, I was able to recruit Jaheria. After you beat Ketheric at the top of Moonrise Towers, you have the option to ask Jaheira to join you at the Mind Flayer Colony, don't. I normally already have 4 party members so she cannot join. After you beat Ketheric/Myrkul at the end of Act 2, Jaheria will be in the Throne Room before you venture to Baldur's Gate. You have the option to ask her to join you in Act 3. When I recruit her this way, she always appears, can join the active party, and I am able to complete her missions without issue.

There was also a post regarding this on Steam:

It's a weird bug, no idea what triggers it, easiest way to avoid it is to not bring her to fight Ketheric, kill him without her, and then recruit her after the battle because she will be eager to join you after, and it completely bypasses the weird bug.

My suggestion is, don't bring Jaheria to the Mind Flayer Colony, kill Ketheric, then try recruiting her in the Throne Room. See if that helps.

Thanks Lillith that's great to hear! I was thinking of trying this but my earliest save point by the time I'd got past Ketheric, my earliest save was at the point on the rooftop just after I'd recruited her and you don't seem to be able to un recruit her until after the fight then.

I guess I'll have to have another run through although I must be on like 140 hours and still only at the start of Act 3! laugh

If you have a save right before asking her to join you in the Mindflayer Colorny, use that.
If your only save is after you have already recruited her, try exiting Moonrise Towers (walk outside, pass the bridge, to the Moonrise Towers waypoint). You should be able to go to camp. When at camp, speak to Jaheira and see if she can stay behind. If she can, add in a fourth companion and try defeating Ketheric without her. Then speak to her in the Throne Room.

Not sure if that will work, but it doesn't hurt to try. It sounded like you really wanted to get Jaheira. I know it sucks losing hours, but I would rather redo the battle and get the character, than completely lose out on her after trying hard to keep her. Jaheira is mandatory in Act 3 if
you want to recruit Minsc and Boo.

As it's my first play through, would you say it's worth redoing about 10 hours of content to get them?

Thinking now maybe I just leave it and use it as an excuse for a second playthrough?!

It's completely possible to finish Act 3 without recruiting Jaheira and Minsc. You'll gain more EXP and allies with them, as they have substories, but they're optional. They are not mandatory for the progression of the main plot. Unless you're a fan of BG2 and ABSOLUTELY MUST collect every single character, you can leave them for a second playthrough.

I don't think it's possible to see EVERYTHING in 1 playthrough. If you're doing a Tav run on your first playthrough, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend doing a Dark Urge second playthrough. The Durge playthrough gives you personal quests that tie into the main story. Honour Mode is also a lot of fun. The fact that you cannot control everything adds pure chaos into the mix. You'll find yourself fighting battles and facing legendary actions that you never ran into previously. smile

Thanks man I appreciate that! This is my first BG game but I've played a lot of X-Com so found the combat quite easy, I haven't had a team wipe at all although I came close in Act 1!

Appreciate your advice on a second play through. I had not considered either of those. Perhaps for a third or fourth playthrough...!

It's a shame Dragon's Dogma 2 and the Elden Ring DLC are coming out soon, I'm not sure how to use my precious gaming time!

I have to say though that I think BG3 is a better game than Elden Ring was. It reminds me a lot of Dragon Age 1 actually in terms of the party management

I'm a woman, but you're welcome. smile Don't worry, I'm not offended xD I've played enough games and have been called "bro" more times than I can count 8'D

Dark Urge feels like the true character for me. When you play a good Tav, it's your own character and it feels like a given, but when you're a redeeming Dark Urge it really feels like you had to earn every good deed. For me, some of the best scenes in the game are with Dark Urge. Not going to spoil anything, but a definite recommend.

I'm also looking forward to the Elden Ring DLC, but I've never played a Souls-Borne before. I have the compulsion to try and finish everything I start. I don't mind challenges and "Git Gud," but I don't know how many times I can tolerate dying and staring at a loading screen xD I mean, people call it "SUFFER-RING" for a reason 8'D
