So this has never happened before, the owlbear didn't show up in the goblin camp... there is a chicken in his place. I leave the grove, deal with the cultists and go to the owlbear cave, ive always left the mother alive and went about exploring the area, the blighted village, the whispering depths, the dodgy cellar and then wrapped up the Kagha situation. Long rested several times, then made my way to the goblin camp. The owlbear has ALWAYS been there every other playthrough... now its a chicken. I tried to go back a few saves and long rested several more times before entering the goblin camp nothing. Still a chicken! The owlbear mother and cub are still in the cave!

Is it a bugged save? If I go to a save before the cave will that fix it? Or is a new playthrough better? Grrr

Did you encounter those two cultists previously and send them back to the Goblin camp? They presumably told the Goblins about the owlbear who killed their companion, resulting in the goblins having gone to the cave to kill her and capturing the cub. Maybe if the cultists aggroed and were killed instead during that encounter, the owlbear cub and its mom were still safe in their cave, hence the chicken substitution?

Only way to test this hypothesis is to go to the save right before encountering those cultists on the trail.
