Specifically, I'm talking about the loot on the Nautiloid. For me, right or wrong, I can't help but feel like it sets a tone for the rest of the game.

There are two chests in the first room. The one I usually go to first isn't that big of a deal. It's always some amount of gold. The lowest I've seen is probably 10 and the highest is 17.

The second chest is the one above the dead mind flayer. That one drives me nuts. Sometimes the loot is great. I got a smokepowder bomb there once, for instance. That comes in really handy early on in the game. Other times, it's only got a handful of gold, sometimes around 35 but often far less. And, oh boy, a malachite. Thanks RNG.

The dead mind flayer in the opening room will have some sort of gemstone worth as little as 35 and as much as 65.

It's the dead mind flayer in the room with the three imps that bothers me the most. If it has a potion of speed, that's amazing. With a potion of speed (and a bit of luck) I can often take out the mind flayer, the commander, and the two cambions on honour difficulty. Without the speed potion, the best I'm usually getting is two or three out of the four. And three is seriously pushing it, relying heavily on luck.

So that dead mind flayer loot makes a big difference. I'm crossing my fingers hoping for a void bulb, a spike bulb, and a speed potion. Then I get a single caustic bulb and a skull. Sigh.

I know, none of it probably matters in the full scope of the game, but it still bothers me. Like I said, I feel like it sets the tone for the rest of the entire game.
