I just started a new game with a paladin. I am sitting in the nautiloid and noticed that I have counterspell available as a reaction. (See blue reaction icon over ability bar in linked picture.)
The character should not be able to cast counterspell and has no gear that would grant the ability to do so. I have a number of mods installed, but none of these should be giving me counterspell. I don't even have a spell slot to cast it. Anyone have an idea why I am seeing this ability available? After I hit the beach, I will long rest and see if it goes away... hopefully.

Are you sure it's Counterspell?

Could it be another effect that is giving you a reaction that is simply using Counterspell's icon?

That's what I was thinking too. Look into your spellbook on the reaction page and see what it is called, that should help you solve the issue. (If you have the fun paladin bug of the reaction tab missing, wait a long rest, it usually pops up at some point.)

It definitely appears to be counterspell. It bears the description for counterspell on the reactions tab (see link below).

Looks like others have experienced this bug with vengeance paladins. Looking at the list of mods presented in the discussion below, the only one I have installed is stock scrolls, a mod which I have never used before. I will see if I can disable the mod (or start a new run without the mod) to see if the problem goes away.

Well strange. I disabled 5E spells and stock scrolls, started a new game, and no counterspell. Disabling the mods had no impact on counterspell for the saved game (i.e., still there). Will call this a bug and start a new game.

I'd call this a Blessing!

Does the ask for a 3rd lvl Spellslot? If yes, then this does matter before lvl9
