What's up with this thing? It's a very rare amulet that provides two level 3 spells: a single-target fear and a spell that does 2d8 necrotic damage to a single target on a CON save. The fear has a decent range and doesn't appear to require concentration, which is a plus I suppose. However, the wounding ray, which supposedly "deals immense damage," is ridiculous. At the level this amulet is acquired, trading an action for a d8 cantrip on a CON save would be an absolute last resort. Am I missing something? I had to beat a spectator and its unpetrified lackeys for this thing...

I agree that the amulet is a bit crappy. However, you get access to Dhourn, and his artifact fragment by killing the spectator. You also get access to the path to the tower with all the goodies it contains (though you might be able to sneak by to get there). In other words, you do get more than JUST the amulet from defeating the spectator.

I pillaged the tower before doing the spectator. Feel like the amulet may have been something in EA and was nerfed to the ground because someone found a way to exploit it.
