Is there a way to turn off single save mode after dying in honor mode?

When I created my character I figured it would be possible to change, since it says the game will convert to custom difficulty. But as far as I can tell there is no option

After the first death I find that single save mostly just makes the game frustrating to play and doesn't add much. Especially annoying that I can't quick reload in an unwinnable combat situation. Since quitting out triggers and autosave I have to just sit and wait for all my characters to die. Not to mention if I quit out by mistake in a bad situation it would mean I have to either cheat with mods or start over

as far as i know there's no way to naturally switch on/off single save mode after starting a campaign, but if it's of any use (almost 2 months later), you can go back to your most recent save by force closing the game with task manager (if it does try to save still, just keep force closing over and over)
i like to also save backups of certain points in the game by going to the save file directory and just copying the file elsewhere, but i'm not 100% sure if there's no sort of failsafe for that sort of thing on honor runs
