First, glad to be back!
My question is quite simular to the one on the DD forums: and Linux. If there's any way to play under Linux? And, please, is there any possibility to do this without Wine or whatever else?
I haven't bought my copy of yet, because I live in Russia and I have to wait till the 5 of August, so don't be too hard on me ))
Btw, my pc is runnig under Debian "Woody" distributive.

Welcome RazorUED,
if you want to run as native application on Linux you have no success. I don't know why you can't run Wine or some other emulation application on your Debian distribution but I know that the Demo of works more or less perfect with WineX (the Wine version from Transgaming). The full version of doesn't work because of the included copy protection (StarForce).
run good with Wine and WineX (with WineX a little bit faster).
Sorry for the bad news

Thanks for help, Xanlosch! StarForce is one of the safest protections, but there are ways to avoid it. Yet I don't know a thing about avoiding such protections under Linux. Well, hope there is a way-out... Btw, can anyone give me a hint where I'll find a free copy of WineX? I've visited the official web-site, but they turned out to be a commercial organisation )) Bad luck. Or, maybe, there is a possibility to compile it from the original code? Any help appriciated

Wow, just 10 in the search engine and here it is - WineX 4 (Cedega)Some good (incredibly good!) guys bought the program and it's available right now. It's about 7mb, and there is also an installation guide. The last barrier to be taken is StarForce protection.

Sorry, I haven't a official WineX source tarball on my pc I have only a CVS snapshot. I can you only offer 2 ways:
1) I compress my CVS-tree of WineX and send it to you but I don't know how big it is and if is possible for me to send it to you. I must first see how big this tarball will be (I have only a slow dial-up connection).
2)You try out a CVS commit of the WineX-tree and build WineX from scratch / source. If you want to go this way I can send you instructions for this (and maybe update my website for this...)
HTH
Edit: damn, I was to slow

Well, I have to give up, because there's absolutely no information about emulating StarForce under Linux. Looks like WinXP is the only solution. Ah, it was so close!..

StarForce relies deeply on the Windows OS (the famous scapegoat driver), so running it on Linux means getting rid of StarForce... You'll understand that we cannot give you any advice to do so
The demo of Beyond Divinity is reported to work on Linux, except for some graphical glitches, it's playable. Have fun.

Wow! Looks like I gave up too soon! I shall study the StarForce conception of protection closer... Altough I'll have to install WinXP after all - I simply can't live without Photoshop!

RazorUED, Photoshop runs with the help of Wine on Linux or if you don't need all the stuff of Photoshop, you can use The Gimp If you have trouble with on Linux just ask me.

Yap, I know about The Gimp, but.. it's a compleltely different story, because Photoshop is my The Only Love.
And I have no trouble with Beyond Divinity.. cause I don't have the game. Russian release is only at the 5 of August. Wait! Why should I wait for a russian release?.. Why not play the original version? Hope it's not german, because my knowledge of German covers only alphabet and prounanciation..
Although I really loved english . Ahh, what a sweet time it was! I can remember those days, when I came out of the first village (what was it called? hmm) and started absolutely illogical and yet delightful expedition. And I remember the last fight as well. I even watched the Credits (which had never happened before). That was great, the game simply posessed my soul. Wonder if all the Larian had sold their souls, because how can such a game even exist? Anyway, thank you everyone!
Btw, has anyone got a single idea how to get a licensed copy of BD in Russia??

[color:"orange"]Btw, has anyone got a single idea how to get a licensed copy of BD in Russia??[/color] Digital Jesters (UK publisher) offers free worldwide shipping, though that might not get there faster than Aug 5th. There should be other online stores that will ship to Russia.

Thank you Raze, but I have no credit card. I'll get one if I sucessfullu pass my exams. But what if I don't... I can buy a pirated copy right now, but I don't want to do it!

You could email Digital Jesters and see if you could arrange a different payment method (money order, bank transfer, or something). There are pre-paid credit cards you can buy geared for online purchases, but I don't know where they are available.
