I have a level 19 mage. Just got to steel scorpions, which of course are immune to Meteorstrike.

I see three main choices for how to deal with them:

1. Use the Spider statuette and pass them without killing them.
2. The 'Hellspikes' spell.
3. The spell with metal discs.

In testing, I put two points into Hellspikes for one test and two points into the discs for another test.

The discs seemed to kill it much faster (in fact I had to put more points into Hellspikes to kill it).

What would people suggest, to use the skill points well, for the 'next big spell' since apparently Meterostrike needs to be supplemented?

Is there much use in the other damage spells using elements, or is better instead to just add the physical damage spell(s) above?

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

I strongly endorse Cleglaw's hint!

Hellspikes?!
Oh man I hate that spell!
I really should max it? Wot's so good about it? I invested 1 point in it in the beginning - and meteorstrike was just better.
I stopped putting skill points in it after I saw the differences between it and meteorstrike.
It's area-damage and a very small one - if I may add.

The area covered by Hell Spikes increases at higher levels, becoming much more effective on level 4 or 5. The spell does physical damage, so can not be resisted. Since it does not require a target, you can use a shadow potion or Fade From Sight, cast Hell Spikes near an opponent to do damage without turning visible. Alternately, Blind + Hell Spikes is an effective combination.
Save the game, boost the spell as much as you can and try it out.

I did not use Hell Spikes playing a warrior, but by all means try it out yourself and see if you find it useful.

Raze, thanks for the nice welcome.

At the point I saw a couple of strong tips to get Hellspikes, before the note of concern, I got it. We'll see.:)

Often hard in these games to know the nuances of which skills are good.

Mage spell books can be bought (and sometimes found in bookcases) and there is plenty of gold in the game, so you can experiment with that spell class anyway, depending on your luck finding them.

Free skills, and spell books you can buy

Hi, Craig234

I'm new to this game just like you. I've been playing for a few weeks and I've been experimenting with some skills. I have to agree with Cleglaw angd the others. Hellspike is nasty! My level 43 mage has Hellspike lvl 5. She can kill everything in seconds including bosses. I think you should also train Freeze. Just Freeze the monster then hellspike like crazy. If you can click fast enough, you'll send out lots of spikes in a second. Even Josephina falls rather quickly!

Some people also suggest the use of such spells as Elememntal Hail or Elemental Strike. I found those two skills less powerful compared to Hellspikes. On the other hand, Divine Death is very powerful. But you have to go through the blessing ritual first to get that reward.

In the end , though, it's your choice as this game gets a lot easier late game. Btw, Hellpikes work effectively on easy and normal modes. I don't know about hard mode. Not sure if I want to try.
