I think there is enough crackfic in act 3 at this point.

Not every character has to be romanceable. Raphael is a villain and antagonist and should stay that way.

Besides,after talking to Hope in the bodoir, the thought of not just outright killing the guy and Haarlep makes me sick.

I was curious why Raphael was in the brothel if he wasn't romanceable. It doesn't even seem like customers were sleeping with him. It left me very confused as well.

Well, now I'm curious what you wrote! Everyone has different opinions, I know some here who do not like romances at all (or only want to have them regular and straight with the good guys) and others who want them everywhere. If it is about Raphael romance, I can totally get the attraction. He has a great voice actor and is an interesting, slightly seductive character. I mean the devil will always be full of temptations, it's part of his job.
The Harleep scene was a bit much for me personally, but I think it's better after the (i believe they did) face changes and added warnings (via companion interruptions) for players ready to hop into the bed with them. Again, no judgement from me over what people like in their fantasy romance.

Raphaël is spying on you constantly via Korilla. He must therefore know that Voss said he 'd wait for you in the Shares' caress taproom. So, if he wants to have a talk with you once you make it to Baldur's Gate, this would be a good place to wait.
Now this moves the question to, "why would Voss pick this place to meet you ?" Possibly because it's the only public place in town where the presence of a githyanki doesn't disturb people.
It is indeed part of the fun of the game to ask these kinds of questions and figure out an answer.

It's funny that you see the original title of this thread in the forum overview ( if it was the last one changed). But if you then enter the forum you see the edited title.

That one gets answered in game by a letter you can pickpocket from Voss. He has an appointment with Raphael who invited him to meet at Sharess' Caress.

Interesting, so that invalidates my theory above that Raph spyed on you and went to the Caress after learning that Voss would be there.
So Raph chose "the caress" for Voss. Could still be because it is the place where all races can mingle withoutthe locals raising eyebrows. We don't see any Githyanki in the lower city.

Oh that's not what I mean. If you speak to the person running the place, or her cat I forget which, she will brag about there being a devil on their roster and mention people coming out of his room looking changed.

It gave me many questions, chief among them what else is he selling and why doesn't he try to sell that to me 😅

To fuel your ponderings a little further: If you snoop around the Devil's Den a little you can find three documents White knight, bishop and pawn orders, that talk about canceling the debt of three of Raph's debtors in exchange for their help in bringing about the promotion of Flame Portyr (the Flaming Fist who is currently bespelled by Ethel). The name Portyr shows up again in the basement of the Stormshore Tabernacle, in a letter in which a Duke Portyr wants a transcript of all prayers offered at the tabernacle - the vicar refuses of course. So my conspiracy theory is, that Raph wants to know what the citizens of BG are praying for, so he can prey on the desperate and in exchange helps to promote the Duke's relative.

It makes sense for him to be in the Sharess Caress, especially at that time: there are a lot of people coming to the city through Wyrms Crossing and they are mostly desperate. Where do they go to try and forget their misery? To the establishment, that has booze and company and doesn't ask questions.
Raphael is a devil and out for souls, so that is the perfect place to catch them. He sells seemingly easy solutions to complex problems, plain and simple.
I thought his placing there quite perfect.
And yeah, Haarlep was far too much. I would have preferred to learn more about the Hearthflame sisters instead. Haarlep would have made sense, if they had gone into Mephistos involvment in the backgraund and made that a plotpoint. And tbh, I thought, he would make an appearance in soem form, after he had so much involvment in the plot and Tav/Durge potentionally robbing him of an artifact, 7000 souls and the own son plotting gaianst him. I would even have been ok, if Mephisto used Haarlep to send a message or so. That would make the incubus actually useful for something else than nice gloves.

Oh, that's a cool theory.

I wish there was more political intrigue to investigate and interact with in Baldur's Gate. As it is Gortash just forces the nobility to crown him archduke and then you kill him to dethrone him. It would have been much more interesting if the player had to navigate political alliances with various factions to bring about the fall of Gortash.

And it's the perfect setup for Wyll playing a more important role.

This would have been so great. I mean, you can find out, that Gortash has probably blackmailed some of the nobility, if you raid the bank vaults, but can do nothing with it. And no one even acknowledges Wyll at the ceremony.
