I'm in act 2 and have been putting some skill points into summoning doll upgrades to its level and skill points.

I just got the second doll (demon), and it does not seem to have the level/skill point upgrades.

I had thought that all dolls would benefit from the summoning doll upgrades, but it seems not the case. How does it work? It seems lousy that points I invested early are now no longer available to improve this new doll (or future dolls).

When you learn the upgrade skills, the level/stat/skill points go into a communal pool, that you can distribute between any summoning dolls you have, rather than a bonus going to each doll individually.
You can learn the summoning upgrade skill again (in another skill slot, if necessary) to upgrade new dolls.

really? that bites. so when i get the next doll, i add one point to summoning upgrade, and if i summon both of them they'll both have the option to level up until i level one up and then the other one can't, if i understand this correctly. what a freaking pain. i wouldn't have leveled up the skeleton so much if i'd have known that.

Another tip for you, if you upgrading your dolls, these are permanent and can be changed/sold. For reasons you will find out at the end of the game, use your deathknight to level up your dolls.

I wouldn't have invested so many non-refundable points in the skelly if I had known, either. Bummer. Fortunately, I did by chance use my deathnight for the upgrade slots. Thanks for that tip, Sephiroth - I'll make sure to use him for any further upgrade slots also.
