this has been bouncing in my head for weeks now and for my sanity i need to let it out (i’m sorry in advance) - touches on sensitive topics

being drunk gives you disadvantage on dex and cha checks - in this case specifically includes intimidation. if you were trying to intimidate someone while drunk, you have disadvantage on the roll; if you are granted advantage for the reason of being drunk (ie
more likely to engage in domestic violence
), then the advantage/disadvantage cancel out, making it as effective as if you were sober. in cases where being drunk should be more intimidating due to someone’s history
of being more abusive while drunk
, would the dc for the check just be lowered compared to if they were sober, or would the advantage somehow override the disadvantage?

Hey @healcaster! The question isn’t uninteresting, but I need to ask you to use spoiler tags in order to discuss sentitive topics such as domestic abuse. The full text editor has a spoiler button, or you can quote this message and reuse the tags.

Trigger warning
In my uninformed opinion that I’m giving as an example, it’s not the drinking that makes abusers threatening, it’s the fact that the victims are captive.

I’d appreciate it if you could edit your post accordingly. Thanks in advance!
