Hi,

I'm currently in Act 1. My tav is a Level 4 Swords bard wielding 2 hand crossbows. I took the sharpshooter feat. The problem is I always have a low hit change (< 50%). Could you please suggest what spells I should take as I level up, good multiclasses and how to remedy the horrendous accuracy.

Thanks in advance smile

Sharpshooter is not the best choice at low level, you can disable it on passive skills and your chance to hit will increase. smile I would Multiclass in Rogue, most prefer thief, I prefer assassin. smile I would prefer control spells, like Hold Person etc

Alright just a couple more things if you don't mind:

1) At point should I enable sharpshooter

2) What equipment is best for Act 1 & 2

In ACT I;

  • Fighter has the Archery trait which will increase your ranged accuracy significantly (useful for Action Surge too).
  • The illithid passive Favourable Beginnings provides a drastic accuracy boost on the very first attack against a target.
  • And there is also Oil of Accuracy consumable which can always be used if more is needed.

In ACT II;

  • The Risky Ring from Araj Oblodra at Moonrise Towers will drastically increase your accuracy by giving you permanent Advantage on all attacks.
  • The Marskmanship Hat from Roah Moonglow at Moonrise Towers increases accuracy by +1.
  • The Drakethroat Glaive from Roah Moonglow at Moonrise Towers can elementally infuse your weapon for +1 accuracy.
  • The Hellfire Hand Crossbow from Yurgir provides +2 to accuracy.
  • Multiple various gloves which provide +1 accuracy.

In ACT III;

  • The Mirror Of Loss can be used to increase your Dexterity to 22, thus giving you even more accuracy.
  • Multiple various gloves which provide +1 accuracy.

You can switch Sharpshooter on and off at any time in the passive skills or you can drag the skill from your skill list straight to your main bar. Equip doesn't really matter in Act 1, buy the 2 green crossbows from Dammon, that's the most important thing. Other than that, things you can wear. Things get more interesting in Act 2, as Crimsom has already given some good tips.

Anything that can give you advantage on attack rolls. Attack from stealth, blind opponents etc. I would activate sharpshooter whenever I am 70% or better to hit with it.

Gloves of Archery gives a straight +2 to all ranged attack rolls and are good in Act 1 and 2 and can be obtained from the vendor at the Goblin Camp. You can also go with Crossbow Expert and Gloves of the Groveling Underdog to have permanent advantage whenever you are fighting multiple enemies at melee range.

Acid can be used to lower the AC of tough opponents and increase your chance to hit them with Sharpshooter.

Some melee weapons will lower your crit threshold even if you are using your ranged weapons. Lowering your crit chance is great when you are spamming lots of attacks with advantage, just going from 20 to 19 will see it happen so much more frequently.

3 level dip into devotion paladin also works very good with sharpshooter, since you get Sacred Weapon class action which adds your charisma modifier to the weapon attacks for 10 turns. It can offset and even later surpass the attack penalty that comes from the sharpshooter. Paladin skills are also charisma based which pairs well with bard's.

Apart from that, 3 level dip into a battlemaster fighter is great for a sharpshooter, since you get Precision Attack which is a free action that gives +1d8 on the next attack roll

I agree with others that Sharpshooter isnt really a good feat to take on low levels.

The main advantage of sharpshooter is really that you can still hit opponents who have the higher ground as if they wouldnt have this advantage.

An ability that lowers your chance to hit by 5 points, which on a d20 attack roll (i.e. random values between 1 and 20) means 25%, isnt going to work too well, unless you are really very likely to hit in the first place already.

For example:

Your original chance to hit is 30%, activate Sharpshooter -> your chance is now 5%, so 1/6 of the previous value.

Your chance to hit is 95%, activate Sharpshooter -> your chance is 70%, thats 2/3 of the previous value. Unless your weapon does more than 20 points of damage per attack, you would be get higher damage ... on average. And your opponent needs to still have plenty of hitpoints for this to be effective, too.

So really unless you already have a very good chance to hit AND your opponent has still plenty of hitpoints, its probably not worth it.
