Hello! Just wanted to write a post sharing my experience with the new mod tool thus far.

I've had random, mixed results with third party mods. I've checked that all have been updated to Patch 7, but even so it seems that the game won't let me create a new save on any difficulty and returns me to the main menu.

I reverified my files and cleared the modlist, and was able to run a new game. I was even able to add third party mods afterwards, and did this slowly one at a time to a point i was satisfied. This worked and I was able to customize and begin a new game. However, I had closed out of the game again and reopened, and it wouldn't let me create a new game anymore, and I had changed nothing. I use BG3MM to load mods, but I've noticed that using it versus the built in manager changes nothing. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is, as it worked one moment and then wouldn't the next.

Verifying files for me takes well over an hour, so doing that every time I want to play is not an option. I'm not frustrated or anything, as it is a brand new implementation, but rather wanted to share my experience with the new feature in hopes maybe someone else has a solution, or we can use this feedback to come up with fixes for it. I toyed with deleting the modprofile file, and that didn't change anything. Verifying was the only thing that effected anything, but it was only temporary.

My only feedback is that it seems the built in mod manager models Vortex's automatic load order functionality, which can cause issues where BG3MM's ability to manually adjust load order fixes. This might just be something that mod makers have to adjust to, I'm not entirely sure how or why some mods have to have specific load orders in order to function since i'm not a modder myself.

The in game mods listed within the mod manager all work fine, so hopefully with time either third party mods can be published directly, or they can be more easily implemented alongside the built in manager! Thanks for reading, I just plan on being patient for now and hoping this all fixes itself soon laugh

after running some tests, these are some notes i took and issues/interesting things i found:

there are no issues loading third party mods compatible with each other and with patch 7 using either BG3MM or the in game mod manager. i ran a bunch of rather pointless tests to make sure of this. only incompatible mods cause the error message to pop up in every difficulty besides custom (more on that later)

disabling a mod and exporting it within bg3mm will not disable it in game if you do this with the game open without also disabling it in the in game mod manager. i tested this with the modded class "Succubus".

disabling or enabling a mod with in-game mod loader whether it is active or disactive in BG3MM's load order causes no issues, but will not update the changes in BG3MM. sometimes you will get a popup in BG3MM letting you know the load order has been edited, sometimes you do not. this might be a more obvious and useless note.

using the new custom honor mode rulesets, and compatible mods, i was unable to create a new character. the custom settings i used were everything tactician, 0.5 camp supplies, no pop up on failed perception checks, and show roll needed to succeed in dialogue check. however, when i loaded with tactician difficulty moments before, i was able to create the character with no issues.

even though i was able to load tactician before running into the new custom ruleset error, loading tactician after trying to load this new ruleset also left me with an error. closing and reopening the game seems to fix this and i could create a character on tactician again with the same compatible mods installed.

after reloading and disabling all mods, i was still unable to launch the game using the custom rulesets listed earlier. after digging in my files i realized i had an "Honor Mode Save" mod that i had installed for extra saves in default honor mode pre-patch 7, and figured that was the issue, but after deleting the files it still popped up with an error. this extra mod was it's own folder and didn't change any other base files, so I'm unsure as to why the custom rule set will not allow me to make a character. I also tried ticking single save along with the other rules listed above, but that did not fix it either.

final note, i receive the exact same error when i load a third party mod incompatible with Patch 7 and try to create a character with custom honor mode rulesets. I will be reinstalling in the morning to see if there is a hidden mod somewhere in my files causing the honor mode issue, but I'm too tired tonight.

the error reads: "We are unable to start a new game. This might be because of the mods you have installed. Returning to the main menu now. Please disable external mods and try again!"

apologies for the long post! any recommendations or similar experiences would be helpful. thanks smile

After reinstalling my game, and removing all third party mods, I'm unable to launch or create a character in any difficulty. I'm only using mods available from the in game mod manager, so it's a little odd. Just thought I'd update this post here, I'll be waiting for any sort of patch or update before playing I guess!!

Looking forward to trying the new endings though!

I have finally been able to create a character using the custom rulesets, after doing a full reinstall and removing all third party mods from my folders/BG3MM. it seems even if the third party mods are in an inactive state they cause issues. I imagine both the reinstall and the file purges fixed it. I'm only running with in game mods from the supported loader now and it's working fine, so if anyone has issues like I did just purge everything entirely; RIP any previous saves though!!
