I saw Holy Water for sale in Act 1 from the potion seller, and since it was really expensive I thought I better buy it. The question is: What do I do with it?

If you have alchemy extract lvl 4,
you can use holy water to make permanent potions

If I'm not mistaken it gives about 6 points to the chosen attribute.

10 points per attribute potion.
that's why they're so coveted! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Good Evening Everyone,

> I previously used Alchemy to get a permanent potion from Holy Water, and then unlearned the skill. I have since gotten 2 more Holy Waters from merchants, and wish to repeat the process.

> When I relearn Alchemy to Lvl 4, the highest I can go, the Permanent potion choice is grayed out and I can't make one.

> Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
FatVladdie

You have to have the alchemy plants in your inventory. I carry 5 of each for just such an occasion.

I have not actually tried to use my Holy Water yet so here is a list of questions:

1. Do you need level 4 extract, or combine?
2. Do you need 1 of those temporary stat boosting potions?
3. If you do, does the size matter?
4. Do you need alchemy plants?
5. If you do, does anyone have a formula list for the different potions?
6. How many stat points does it give?
7. Is it worth respawning battlefield merchants to just try and buy tons of Holy Water?

Thanks for any help.

Wish I could answer these, but in reply to #7, I would say, probably not... I never saw Holy Water for sale during my entire game, and that was with plenty of BF respawns to buy better equipment and potions. I think I'm in the minority by buying my potions rather than making or picking them up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Of course, you might have better luck, but as far as I know, the chance of a merchant having it is 1%. Not good enough for me to try, but maybe good enough if you really want it. Heheh...

So I will just chalk it up as miracle luck that I bought one in act 1 battlfields, and decided to even buy it since I had no idea what it did. I just figured "Wow, expensive. Must do something good."

You need level 4 extract

[color:"orange"]2. Do you need 1 of those temporary stat boosting potions?
3. If you do, does the size matter?
I don't even know what you mean by this.
So, the answer is no.

[color:"orange"] 4. Do you need alchemy plants?
Yes, you do.

[color:"orange"] 5. If you do, does anyone have a formula list for the different potions?
Please look here

[color:"orange"] 6. How many stat points does it give?
I believe it was 6 stat points per potion

[color:"orange"] 7. Is it worth respawning battlefield merchants to just try and buy tons of Holy Water?
That really depends on you and your playing style. I found you can get through the entire game (even on hardcore) easily enough without needing any permanent potions...

Thanks All,

For all your help! I'll make sure that I have the Alchemy plants in the correct number [all 5 types I gather?]and in the correct character when I play tonight.

number 2/3.
i assume you mean (for example) the dark grey temporary strength potion and the 3 different sizes to make a perm potion. no. these don't come into play (nor do empty bottles, etc.) when making a perm potion.

number 6.
i always got 10 attribute points per potion. but since two people have now stated 6 points, perhaps i got 10 because i played on hardcore setting. maybe you receive less attribute points on lesser difficulties. but you'll get 10 on hardcore.
with 4 agility and 2 strength potions. having consummed one of each (strength and agility) potion

The permanent potion strength was changed a couple times in the patches. They started off at one stat point, IIRC, but the holy water had unlimited uses. Now they are stronger, but with a single use for the holy water and low chance of buying more.

I think you're right about the skill level in relation to making permanent potions. I used my only holy water to make a strength potion, and it was a +8 while playing on Tactical.

There seems to be some conflicting info here on what number of stat points you get. I was just wondering if maybe the skill level you have affects it? I know you need level 4 extract, but can't you have a higher level then that? Or, is that the highest that extract can go? And if you can have a higher level then 4 what is the benefit?

If I get time to play tonight I will remove the bow skill from my death knight and see what the different levels from 4 up to whatever max I can use does.

You can't go any higher than 4.
(Well, you could go to level 5 in previous versions, to allow you to make stronger permanent potions, but now this isn't possible anymore-.

Oh, ok. Just wondering why people are giving different numbers for the stat increases.

It would appear that the difficulty level you start your game at affects the amount of points you get. At least that's what I think Lego is referring to above. It would make sense, at higher difficulties you would need a higher point boost to make up for the harder battles.
