Is it just me or is the interface of this game really, really bad ?
I've been trying to get used to it for a very long time but it still drives me nuts on a regular basis.
- You cant start a battle from stealth with a character that has multiple attacks because you will be denied the other attacks. You will just straight up lose them. You wont even have them when control returns to them. They are just gone.
- Likewise you wont get abilities that open if you successfully attack either, like on Monk. So if you open the battle with a monk, you wont get the second attack from level 5 on, AND you wont get the regular bonus action attack either.
- If wielding two weapons, you have to actually turn off dualwiedling, because otherwise the game will waste your offhand attack on opponents who are already dead, and in general block you from using your bonus action in any other way but the offhand attack.
- But if you have switched on dualwielding and you open the attack with a stealth attack, trying to get a surprise round, you actually DO both attacks.
- If you touch any of the keys a, f, w, d you lose focus of the game on the main character, and the POS1 key is very, very far away. This is a stupid mechanism because 99% of the time I of course want to focus on the currently selected character.
- When you try to click on a bookshelf (or likewise) then the game wants you to metriciously hit the exact correct pixel, otherwise you dont give the command to open that bookshelf, but just run close to the bookshelf and make it even harder to click on it.
- On the other hand if you get close to a door and click clearly into the opening of the door, a many, many pixels wide and high opening, not on the door itself, the game retardedly insists that you surely want to close the door. Right ?
- If you give a bad command, good luck canceling. There is literally no key to "stop that idiocy you're doing RIGHT NOW". Even trying Shift+Space will take ages before it triggers.
- The game also loves to attack thin air if you click on the ground instead of the opponent. All the while the opponents keep moving around and are really not that easy to click on.
- If you are scrolled out too far in a closed space, the game also loves to figure you want to attack some wall feature far up that you dont even see, instead of the opponent you tried to click on.
- Another super annoying function is the autoinsert function of that command menu at the bottom. You can have scrolls deep in containers in containers, and still they will show up on your menu bar, despite the fact you really really dont want to waste them. The game just loves to clutter that menu will all kinds of b.s. and there seems to be no option to just switch this function off. You literally have to get a couple shovels or something to drop them into there so the game will not constantly offer you to waste your hard earned scolls.
All in all I feel that after all this time I should have found a way to make this game interface work but so far I only hate it more and more.

The auto-assignment of items to the hotbar can be disabled by going into Settings > Interface > Uncheck categories you do not want added to the hotbar. On the other hand if you get close to a door and click clearly into the opening of the door, a many, many pixels wide and high opening, not on the door itself, the game retardedly insists that you surely want to close the door. That's a bug with doors since Update #3, which wasn't an issue during Early Access. One of the updates screwed up their open/closed states, causing them at one point to not even visually open. As is evident although they do open now, their open/closed states are still mechanically messed up so all doors reset to a closed state, despite visually remaining open. It's an annoying issue having to reopen doors, why it isn't fixed yet who knows. There are a ton of bugs and glitches in the game, including the already mentioned action economy.

Yup. I will to it my usual frustrations with hotbar (it not remembering where I put what, so for example, wildshape or switching weapons, messes up my meticulous hotbar organization) and party chain controls.

I can walk through any open door by turning left or right until the room behind the door appears though, and then clicking behind the door.
Or by using the free camera which however I personally find very confusing to operate.

Or by using the free camera which however I personally find very confusing to operate. I agree that the way clicking on the door opening closes the doors is irritating, and that often it’s a faff with the camera to get a view of the floor behind the door to click on. The grove entrance is always annoying, for example!

Currently, some change to the ungroup function bothers me most. If you have your f3 or f4 party member selected and ungroup (via button or keyboard short cut), the character will be promoted to the f2 position, messing up the party layout. If you enjoy sneaking, splitting or positioning your party before a fight, this is really annoying.

Is it just me or is the interface of this game really, really bad ? It might be just you. The UI/UX of this game is light-years beyond most any game or app I've encountered. Very well thought out in many respects, and having increased functionality for those you happen upon it or try it. Once you play it a while, it makes more sense and you come across cool nuances and extra capabilities for power users. Has some shortcomings, sure. But I'm amazed how much you can do and wish more app and game makers paid more attention to the details Larian has. I also personally enjoy meticulous, intricate, detailed UIs, so this one is down my alley. I love that you need to click the precise pixels, and very rarely mis-clicked. That was not an issue for me at all, except maybe early early on when I was getting used to the game, or the doorways in a couple battles. I hate UIs that have big, bubbly icons everywhere, a ton of vertical/horizontal padding around text or buttons, big fonts, and the like. Generally, I dislike interfaces designed for users with 13" monitors or those who want a more casual, mobile phone-like experience... with some Metro-style interface where all the buttons are devoid of color (or all the same color) and generic/basic 2-D line art representations of everything just to look kewl and modern to follow graphic design trends of the past decade.
