Does anyone know why I might be unable to raise the Warrior craftsman skill Identify Equipment higher than 2? I've got plenty of skill points to use, but am unable to increase it.

The book you got from Fergus only teaches Identify up to level 2. You will have to find a teacher to raise it higher. The weapons officer in the citadel (towards the end of act 1) can teach it to level 5, or you could check with the battlefield merchants (not sure if they teach it in earlier acts).

This is such a waste of skill points in my opinion. Just get the merchants to do it, its not that expensive.
I usually wait until my main character is encumbered, then warp to merchants, Identify everything, and if I dont like it, flog it.
the skill points are far rarer and more valuable than the small amounts of gold they charge for the service.
Cash in what you have and spend it on hammer or sharpen

If you've missed the weapons officer, your next chance is the temple smith in a3 (up to lvl 5) or Brian in the BF (up to lvl 10).

Don't waste the skill points on identify. Or repair, or lockpick, or pickpocket!! All a waste IMHO. You can pick up, and sell so much stuff that you should always have plenty of gold, lockpick doesn't work, and merchants in the BF's will repair and identify your equipment for a small fee. Skill points can be much better spent on your primary weapons/magic path, and sharpen, IMHO.

Pickpocket (in my opinion anyway) is actually one of the best skills available in the game. Even if YOU don't want to invest in it, have one of your summoning dolls invest a point in it (unless you're one of those three players out there that actually USE the summoning dolss of course). There's a nice little bug (at least I assume it's a bug) that allows you to pickpocket unlimited gold and other stackable items. Just press Ctrl when you pickpocket stackable items, and then make sure you always leave at least ONE of whatever you're trying to steal in the traders inventory. This way the gold/arrows/... you've stolen doesn't actually count as a stolen item and you can do it over and over again. This way you won't have to bother picking up items you won't use anyway and certainly won't send you running to the merchants because all that stuff you've been carrying around just gets to heavy... Anyway, if anyone wants to invest points in identify/... they have the right to do just that. Anyone is entitled to their own way to play the game...

@fire pickpocket is actually a very valuable skill if u learn to use the little trick i found for it all u have to do is out one point in it and then when u steal only steal money or gold that has been stacked if u hold CTRL when u click and leave 1 piece it doesnt count towards ur pickpocket limit so u can become very very rich pretty quickly so that u can get those beautiful yit charms all the sooner

I'm not trying to bang on anyone that want's to use any skill, I was just giving my humble opinion. I am a bit of a scavenger and I pick up, and sell everything. This is easy with the ability to warp back and forth from the BF's to sell it all off. I have more gold then I know what to do with, so for me, PP isn't needed. I invest all my points into my weapon of choice and am a killing machine because of it. As I said, that works for me, and whatever path you take, have fun with it.
