after installing the game couple of days ago it came to my attention that i wasnt asked for the CD key. i knew it required one cause i have one on my CD case and i previously hired the game from the local video store(but uninstalled) for a test to see if i wanted to buy this game.

would not adding the CD cause me problems later on in the game?

thanks.

Are you sure it is a CD key on the case? With the UK / North American versions, the copy protection will give an error message mentioning a CD key if it fails to find the play CD (disk 2) in an optical drive, but AFAIK that is the only CD key associated with the game. The Australian version of the game uses a different copy protection, but I don't recall anyone mentioning having to enter any CD keys, so you should be fine.

In that case, the CD key was probably stored in the registry, and not removed when the rental was un-installed. The saved game formats are more than likely not tied to the specific CD key, so there should not be any problems using a different key (unlike with online games). If you ever need to reinstall the game, or move to a different computer, you can use the CD key you have.
If you are comfortable editing the registry, you could change the CD key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\LarianStudios\BeyondDivinity), or uninstall the game, run a registry cleaner and re-install.

All CD from the same batch have the same key. So I guess the key from the version you've tested is the same as the one you purchased <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

And anyway, the savegame format is not tied to the CD key, you won't have any compatibility issue.
