First of all, hello to everyone. This game is just amazing. My warrior is around level 32, and I have had a GREAT time playing the game. I look forward to beating it, then buying Beyond Divinity!

But I have a problem with Divine Divinity! I was playing it everyday, then a couple days ago, it just stopped playing well. When I get into the game, it chugs so SLOW, the fps must be like 5-10! I don't know what caused it, but I have read the boards, and done everything I have seen suggested. I have reformated my HD, patched of course, reinstalled Div 3 times, erased the dynamic folder, installed and reinstalled the lastest video card drivers, and reinstalled DirectX 9 a few times, and it still chugs. Even 640*480 is choppy, and I haven't changed anything hardware wise, and it use to play as smooth as day!

My specs:
Compaq Presario 2596us Laptop
2.8Ghz Celeron
512mb pc2700 RAM
40GB HD (25GB free)
Windows XP Home
64 MB ATI 345M Video (shared)
DirectX 9.0b

I am thinking maybe my hardward inside has somehow "broken" or is having issues such that it simply can't perform like it was a week ago? The laptop is only about 3 months old... Or maybe there is some kind of memory leak in windows that is causing the problem? I also tried to play Everquest, but crash when I login to that. That makes me think maybe my video card isn't directx 9 compatible? I just don't know! Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you!

If re-installing Windows didn't help, that seems to point to a hardware problem (especially if Everquest also used to run fine). Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Re-installing Windows from a restore disk/partition can add a lot of stuff back to your startup menu. Did you check Compaq's site for BIOS or chipset driver updates, etc? Have you checked the BIOS settings to see if the amount of shared RAM for the graphics chip, or something, has been changed?

With Beyond Divinity, a few people have had better luck using the third party Omega Drivers on laptops. Since the game was working fine, though, the drivers are probably not part of the problem.

There are a couple memory testing programs you can try;
Memtest86 or MS Windows Memory Diagnostic

You could use something like Sisoft SANDRA to get detailed information about your laptop and do some tests.

Hello

I thought at first it was spyware causing the problem but since you mentioned it is a laptop.

The simple answer is take your power supply to a repair shop and either get it repaired or replaced, this will solve the problem.

Regards

Andrew
