I've tested with raising this to level 5, and never had it do anything. I cast it on a dark room I haven't looked in, and it is still dark.
Is it broken, am I using it the wrong way, is it any much use?

The skill is used to see what dangers might be awaiting you. It's like having a second set of eyes in the room to see monsters with. I find that using Hearing (shows things on the mini-map) is a better method of detecting monsters.
The best use it has is mapping. If you cast it twice in the same spot, that location becomes permanently mapped.

It's not working that way for me; I cast in on an area behind a locked door, it appears there's a room there on my map, but wizard site does nothing.
I can cast it 10 times on the same spot.

As far as I knew, that's what the spell does. In what way isn't it working?

I do it like this => cast it 2x quickly with right click and go at once with "m" into the map. The map is uncovered then and remains uncovered.
If you cast it - a high pitched sound comes - does this happen to you? Maybe the room on your map shows another dungeon? All dungeons in the map are in the same level.
Example => if I am in a cellar and scroll on the map, I can see rooms belonging to another dungeon nearby - even if I can't reach it.

Ah I think I'm seeing the answer now: it does not, as I expected, make the room visible on the main screen, but only on the minimap - right?
It remained black on the main screen, so I thought it was not working.

No, it should make visible on the main screen - but fades off rather quickly - could you try my method, please? I'm not sure, where you exactly are and if the room is simply another dungeon. Could you give me specific directions, please?
If I use WS to see something in-game-screen, I hit pause quickly after casting the spell with right-click.
