This post is about a “version” of the karmic dice that preserve the balance of the game by smartly using probability theory. It is also very simple to implement with a few python/R lines of code (the code is attached)

I am a prof. In Stats and Probs and I did this a while ago. If it ends up being useful, great it’s obviously not copyrighted. If not, I had some fun thinking about it.

Is this an update to last year’s algorithm?

I am afraid it is the same idea as the last year! I thought to bring it back because I recently read (entirely by chance) another old thread https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=954748&page=1 discussing the karmic dice, which points out that the current implementation likely does change the rules of the game in some obscure ways. I had not noticed how much people were discussing this, and I am amazed by the amount of effort that went into this. As the lazy academic I am, I jumped to speculating what I would have done rather than trying to understand what is currently implemented Unless I missed something else, It seems the topic is still very relevant!

In any event, I hoped to bring this post to the attention of somebody skilled in creating mods or to Larian. I do not have any such competencies nor the time to do that myself! Also, if any details of the current implementation were known, it would be easy enough for me to understand if the algorithm is "fair" or balanced, and if not, I could come up with suggestions.
