Since I started playing with the first person view mod collection, BG3 doesn't launch the first time I try after booting my PC. The process goes something like this:

  • Boot into Windows
  • Start Baldur's Gate 3, either through GOG Galaxy or by executing it directly. Larian Launcher starts up.
  • Acknowledge the "You have mods" warning, let the launcher refresh, and click Play
  • Nothing happens. Open task manager, bg3.exe isn't running
  • Close Larian Launcher using the cross in the top right, no problem
  • bg3.exe appears in task manager, but doesn't do anything. End task.
  • Open Larian Launcher again and click play; game starts

The game usually launches on the second try, but sometimes I need to repeat it, or it can take several seconds after clicking Play on that second attempt. Waiting on the first attempt doesn't seem to work.

I've put up with it for a while because it's not too hard to get the game running, and I don't really want to disable the mods one by one and then reboot each time to test it. Is there a log anywhere that might give a hint towards what's failing?

Just in case it's a known bug, I'm running:

  • ImpUI Patch 7 edition
  • Tutorial Chest Summoning - no hide
  • WASD Character Movement
  • NativeModLoader
  • Native Camera Tweaks
  • No Camera Move
  • Choose your size underwear slot
  • LSLib/Divine Tool

3 things;
Windows 10 without the w11 scan for updates
wifi network
or low Ram amounts... bottom line is bg3 takes a lot and older systems can't do that and gew gum at the same time so save up your pennies and start plaining your next computer

Finally got this fixed. I couldn't imagine it was the age of my computer because a process not starting until the second try isn't a normal symptom of a slow computer. Besides, my computer isn't very old, and my much less powerful laptop runs BG3 just fine (at much lower settings).

Anyway, the fix was to run GOG's verify & repair function, then reinstall all my mods. All working now
