Many mods say “You can find the equipment in the tutorial chest”. But if I'm past the beginning, how do I get to this chest in the current game or am I just unlucky?

The turorial chest is found in the "tutorial" chapter on the nautiloid. It is the chest located ,in the space where you can transform the woman by pulling the lever.
The chest summoning mods will give you a spell that allow you to summon another instance at any time. But if you don't have that one yet,get all the goodies in the Nautiloid.
