I've had this happen in a few saves, and every time it has become permanent. I can still pick up items and transfer them between containers, but I can't drop or place anything(including containers) after it enters my inventory.
What happens I select Drop or Place in World, and nothing happens. I can wait, I can use other options, these are just dead ends. It's happened both wirh and without mods, early and late game.
This also happens in coop, but I haven't had it happen when hosting oddly. Edit: In coop, the host did not have the issue.
