I was wondering if a save file is completely self contained, i.e. it restores the complete state the game was in when reloaded. Or if there are some states and/or triggers saved elsewhere, that remain in their latest state when you go back to a previous save.
I'm wondering because in my current PT I had Lae"zel making her pass at me. Now I happen to play a Gith'yanki this time, and I was aiming for a Lae'zel romance. But a while later, I had a problem with a mod. I had to uninstall the mod and revert back to a save that was taken before Lae'zel's declaration.

Now I'm many hours of play further, at least 3 long rests have passed and several fights, but Lae'zel never came back to me to express her admiration at my skill. So maybe that triggerstate is not in the save file and it will never activate again because the game thinks it was done already.
That would totally spoil my PT.

Does anyone have some "inside" information about this ?

It would be somewhat odd if there was a second, hidden file somewhere but bug support only ever wants the save-folder. I also had a friend fix the bugged Elminster flags for me with file extender, and set some flags so I could get dialogue that wouldn't have been possible for my Avatar otherwise and we only sent around the save file too. So it would surprise me if there was another file somewhere.

Did you do things the same way as you did them before in your time travel experience? I am asking, because certain scenes can only trigger in designated areas. For example, from conversations I read on discord, some of the romance scenes have to happen in the act 1 main map, and I noticed in Lae'zel's case, that she won't chat you up any longer, once you enter the goblin camp, you have to start the conversation with her instead (though that of course just might have been my game being weird).

Edit: Of course not the insider insight you were asking for, but maybe this helps anyway if no tech-savvy person has input. =)

Thank you for your explanation. It is quite clear. Yes, the trigger came near the druid grove. The save was taken not long before it happened, and afterwards I spent a lot of time in and around that location. ( Killing the underground goblins, the crag spiders, the harpies ) But now I' m already in the blighted village. Even upped in level since. I would not have noticed this thing if it weren't for the fact that I now just want to romance her. I may just start over again.

Problem is solved. I've cleared out neraly all of the blighted village. (Only the rooftop guards are still alive). After battling the ogres, Lae'zel "s interest got activated again.
Panicked too early. But, indeed, going back to a previous save does not mean going the same path, even when you as a player make all the same decisions.
