Dear Larian Studios, My name is Tony Guido. Yes, it is a real name and quite common. For many years, I have used my surname Guido for all characters I create since well, Baldurs Gate 2 back in 2000. I was so excited to start my playthrough of Baldurs Gate 3. I saw how beautiful it it looked and during character creation I realized how inclusive it was to people of all walks of life and was soooo excited to play. Sadly, when I put in my given name "Guido" it showed up as ***** because it is apparently insulting. I'll just say, that is pretty lame. Is there any way to change this so I can be me? Love, Tony Guido

I just tried it again and same thing. I'm trying to figure out how to send the pictures. Could this be a Sony PlayStation issue?

I tried using the fancy letters but to no avail. Gweedo works fine though.

Hey Tony!
According to wikipedia, "Guido (/ˈɡwiːdoʊ/, Italian: [ˈɡwiːdo]) is a North American subculture, slang term, and ethnic slur referring to working-class urban Italian-Americans."
I'd never heard of that definition, it feels like the reason for your issue (though I'm just a forum mod and have no special insight into the game). And if it's specifically an american slur, it might explain why Ussnorway doesn't see the same behavior.
You can try submitting a bug report. I'll get back to you if I find out anything interesting.

My original name: "Kulakoonstru" got censored. I tried to figure out why. "Kulak" was ok, "Kulakoo" was ok, but "Kulakoon" was not. I could, however, call myself "Kulakoomstru" with no issues.

I've got a weird one.
Awhile back, I decided to use the hireling Kree Derryck to farm supplies without respeccing any party members. I decided to give her a meaningful rename along with it.
Pursecutter
That was censored. Yet, Purse Cutter worked fine. (For those that don't get it, it's a play on "cutpurse", an old timey word for thief. This is even referenced in BG3 with one of Astarion's stealth lines being quote "let's cut a purse.")
Oh, and then there's all the words censored in the mod manager 🤣 I'm pretty sure the word "deal" is censored in it. I'm against slurs and the like, but this is silly.

Hi Tony, We're sorry to hear you've been unable to use your name for your Tav in Baldur's Gate 3! Unfortunately, we are unable to help with this as the platform which you play on dictates what names are censored, so I would suggest raising this with PlayStation support, which you can contact here: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/Thank you for your understanding, The Larian Community Team

Not as a criticism, but hopefully as an inspiration: the point of roleplaying games was never to play yourself.
And about the problem, no I dont understand.
I mean I understand whats going on and that its not Larians fault.
But its still so absolute bonkers, how could anyone ever possibly think this was a good idea in the first place.
