1 - make Bard, start solo game, no rapier
2 - make Bard, start game together with someone else, no rapier
3 - make Bard, join existing game, you get a rapier

Does not seem to be affected by sex, race, sub-race nor body type (my boy and I tested several racial combinations).

BTW - did the Bard always start the game without a rapier, but only with hand x-bow, or did the class lose it at some point? I no longer remember how it was in EA, while in Release I think I assumed that "no rapier" is a feature, not a bug. But these different outcomes make me wonder ...

As far as I'm aware, Bard has always started with just the hand Xbow, with one of the first few corpses you can loot (After the first combat with the imps with Lae'zel on the Nautiloid) containing a Rapier (This drop does in fact vary between classes, many other classes get a Scimitar or Dagger instead)

That said, I never experienced EA so I don't know if it was different then.
