Much like that stupid gnome in the escape cave with Sazza, who you rescue, heal him, then he wants to attack you.
Findal only attacks you if you're either actively committing a crime by rescuing Sazza or directly antagonize him (Either by using the "I'm gonna finish the job!" dialogue option, or by actually attacking him)
As a result, I go and clear the cave and patch him up before unlocking Sazza's cage. You can also patch him up AFTER taking Sazza through the cave. He's unconscious so doesn't know you literally just sprang their enemy out of jail, I just clear the cave first because I'd rather not have to drag Sazza through the fight (And more importantly, the stupid fireball statues that apparently ignore literally everyone else in the universe besides your party)
They thanked me and made plans to vamoose, emphasis on the moose. I looted a body...and they attacked me. Apparently these animals are also guarding against theft from the bodies of their oppressors.
Aye, there's some strange behaviours in regards to whom owns what. With little regard for logic. Heck it took a patch for the Gnomes to not get miffed at you stealing the Duegar's disarmed weapons while you're literally fighting to save them...
The gnomes don't seem to be particularly bright overall though... What with their whole "Oh no, people are fighting, quick let me go cower in fear whilst standing directly in the middle of both the battlefield and several AoE spells surely that's the safest place ever" thing.
However, the rams are pretty strange overall. In that if you directly attack their handler... They also get aggressive towards you (Or at least they did a number of patches ago... These days I just do the major Nere encounter after dealing with Little Miss Doesn't Notice Me Picking Up Her Barrel of Super Explosives which causes all the other Duergar in the area to be Raptured or something)
Of course, you can also bypass the rams too. Talking to them (With Speak with Animals) will make them heck off after clearing the path. Also, going to camp will make all the rams get Raptured too (Which makes even less sense than with the Duergar whom you can potentially think saw the fighting and got in their boats and left... Where the f are the rams going? They gonna just sprout wings and fly away to victory?)
