Why did Larian even bother putting the resistance crystals in Beyond Divinity? The largest ones only put you up about eight on one of your resistances if you put it in one of the FIVE sections of the bag. I have been having trouble with the shadow creatures on the first rift test on the third level of the academy because they do a lot of SHADOW damage, and there's so damn many of them. I put all of my shadow crystals in the bag (and yes, I do know that they only work on the character holding the bag) and I didn't notice any reduction in shadow damage. Another thing bothering me about the crystals: They aren't worth the money. They are way too expensive for the small amount of resistance you get out of them. (they do bring in money though)

Where did I get this holy water from? Is it a reward from somebody? Is it only good for the money you can sell it for?

You get a holy water as a quest reward for returning the amulet to the imp hermit. You can use the holy water to make a permanent potion. For this you need alchemy extract level 4 and the appropriate alchemy potions.
To find out which alchemy plants you need for which potions, click here

Further about the crystals: no, they don't add a lot of resistance; but that's not the same as saying they're utterly useless. I did use the large shadow crystals with the shadow creatures, and I did notice the difference...
Also in after-game BF with mages doing a particular kind of damage they helped quite a bit (of course, at this point you have extra large crystals of just about each kind, so the added resistance is a wee bit higher...)

Thanks for the info on the Holy Water. But I still think the resistance crystals need some more work. If they culd just make them a little more powerful then, by all means, they could make them harder to find. If they don't make them more powerful they could at least make them less expensive.

Because I don't use those kinds of skills.
Reason 1: It's a dishonest trick for weak souls. (even if it is just a game)
Reason 2: I'd rather use my skillpoints for things I need. (Such as Warrior skills)

iron,
while i can't respond to your initial reply "Because I don't use those kinds of skills." or refute your contention "Reason 1: It's a dishonest trick for weak souls. (even if it is just a game)" - because that's a purely personal choice (though i have to admit laughing a bit - 'i won't rip someone off, it's immoral, but i'll murder them!' ha!!! ).

i can tell you that pickpocket is not simply an 'either' 'or' proposition. skillpoints are sellable and thus re-distributable. there are plenty of threads here describing how to go about this.
with this ability (to sell and re-distribute), you truly can eat your cake and have it too.

Arguing is like the Special Olympics, you may win, but you are still retarded.

firstly, if you're going to quote someone else, please get the quote correct. and give appropriate credit.
secondly, why insult people who are doing their best in the special olympics?
thirdly, it's a debate not an argument.
fourthly, had it been an argument you'd have seen far more compelling quotes along the lines of:

"where there is much desire to learn, there of necessity will be much arguing...and many opinions; for opinion in good men is but knowledge in the making." milton
[color:"#666666"] ........... or
"i have found you an argument: i am not obliged to find you an understanding." johnson
[color:"#666666"] .......... or even my own,
"apparently you wish me to not only furnish you with argument, but the intellect to understand it as well."

and lastly, if 'we've' won the argument, and you're equating us on par with special olympics participants, and again, 'we've won' - what the hell would that make you???

in conclusion, you've shown yourself not only to have a problem understanding the dynamics of the game, but also
to be a moral hypocrite, a plagiarist and an a$s.

Congratulations lad!

The extra-large crystals give 12 resistance IIRC. And at the end of my second game I had in my bag four extra-large bone crystals and one extra-large water crystal. That sure brought my bone-resistance up, you can believe me.

As for pickpocket, your loss.

Ah, then just kill the enemies in the BF and gather enough money for the crystals if you want them

Money is no issue in this game now (not in the last versions). In earlier versions pickpocket was a skill to get stuff you could run out of - as ressources were not plentiful.

I still think, the high price for crystals was ok - and you could find them by killing/or placed on the ground.

I gather - another dishonest trick for weak souls - would be impossible to accept as well? The duplication trick you can use for money?

Graf Otto von Bismarck, speech in the Reichstag, 1888:
We are easily influenced—perhaps too easily—by love and kindness, but quite surely never by threats! We Germans fear God, and naught else in the world! It is this fear of God which makes us love and cherish peace. If in spite of this anybody breaks the peace, he will discover that ardent patriotism.... has today become the common property of the whole German nation

Couldn't resist, IronFist - I think your sig-quote is not complete As far as my knowledge is about Bismarck => he would've taken pickpocket if it served his purposes to keep the balance in Europe - as this Iron Chancellor was more a symbol for keeping balance and peace (in the limitations of his Imperialistic and Colonialistic century, of course)

Or, to put it into a more modern view today:
Quote
Kiya, Larian Forum, 2004:
We are easily influenced—perhaps too easily—by love and kindness, but quite surely never by threats! We Germans respect Life+Tolerance, and naught else in the world! It is this respect for Life+Tolerance which makes us love and cherish peace. If, in spite of this, anybody breaks the peace, he will discover that ardent defending of this peace+tolerance.... has today become the common property of the whole German nation

FIRST OF ALL: I would like to say that, believe it or not, the post about the Special Olympics was not written by me. I would have had more to say than just an insult.
My cousin plays the game too. While he was checking another post on my account, he decided to browse the forum. Seeing as to how I was not present he decided to try and end the "debate" about the crystals. Unfortunately, he decided to write something that gave ME a bad name. I apologize for the mistake if the remark about the Special Olympics offended any of you. But it may be true because you didn't think to take certain possibilities or circumstances into account.
You also decided to focus on my quote. I don't understand how it can be referred to as plaidurism if I didn't even use the same words as Graf Otto von Bismarck. Perhaps I should explain the quote. I said it in reference to Bismarks speech but I did not intend to copy his exact words.
To tell you the truth, I have morals of my own against thievery. But I prefer not to use the word murder when I refer to the killing of somebody as long as it is rightful under justice (such as the American soldiers killing terrorists. Are they murderers?). I believe the killing of an innocent person is wrong, and under such circumstances, I would use the word murder (terrorists are murderers). I like to apply these morals to any action in which I partake, even if it is just a game. I say to you that is wrong to me, to kill somebody for an unjust reason such as acquiring one of their posessions.

My quote has changed.

Sorry, "plaidurism" isn't in my dictionary, I like learning new words - please, explain?

About Bismarck - you may not know this, but his shortened (translated) quote was often misused during centuries by using it out of the remaining context - and as I take/took special interest in historical speeches (it's one of his peace speeches, though this quote can be taken in a martial meaning, if taken out of context - I rode my crusade again - peace, IronFist?)

Nope, I understand your morals about thievery fully - I was in the same state when I entered the old forum, back in 2002... But what shall I say? Many gamers posted about thieving methods in Divinity... and ... well, I was corrupted very easily, and now I love stealing (as weak souls usually do ). It's fun to milk a cow a several times... <sniff> even if Larians restricted this free trade possibility from version to version (spoilsports, grr). I have no problem with other gamers and their standards in this point - just wanted to show up another possibility the game offers to you - free to take or leave.

iron,
way to step up to the plate.

i'll be brief as i must leave...but the plagiary comment was actually made regarding the quote about special olympics. it's been used by a million people, most of whom state it incorrectly (like your cousin).

the term, however, would fit the description of both the 'olympics' words as well as bismarck's (had i intended it so) -

plagiarism - One who plagiarizes; or purloins the words, writings, or ideas of another, and passes them off as his own; a literary thief. (funny that last part, when you're so against 'stealing').

anyway, i appreciate your willingness to come forward.
let your cousin know that ignorant comments like he made only result in verbal bashings. that kind of crap cannot and will not be tolerated. it's insulting on many, many levels and any decent person should already understand that, especially if they're old enough to write.
and it's especially silly - no, stupid - when others are only offering legitimate alternatives to your complaint.

do your cousin (and us) the favor of teaching him how to be a human being.

again, thanks for stepping up.

That is probably because the word does not exist in English. He meant to say "plagiarism", one of the most easily misspelled words all around. The common forms are "plagarism", though, and I have no idea how one manages to type it as "plaidurism." Very creative.

There is, of course, "paludism." It is a kind of disease. *chuckles*

Uhm, people aren't psychic. Someone says something, it has your account name attached to it; why would anyone assume that the person who made the comment was, in fact, not you?

Inform your kinsman that the comment could be interpreted as flat-out trollery. I'm taking your word of "my cousin did it!", but it also happens to be a common excuse on the 'Net everywhere to backpedal when things get heated.

I remember back in the day when I was a young...er...youngER lad, I once said something everybody hated and I immediatlely thought to myself to post " Woops, sorry, my friend got on while I was away and decided to post something bad, excuse him" But I didn't, and look where I am today! Only a few hundred people hate me, not the whole forum!

Well, I don't really mind if you think that I was lying about my cousin (though I do believe I said "believe it or not"). At least I tried to explain myself.
About Herr Bismark: I am sorry I was wrong about the quote. I will refrain from using it in any form. All it seems to do is give Kiya something to look up. Unless she commited it to memory. Then I guess it doesn't really matter.
If it's any consolation, I did set my cousin straight.
Please, feel free to comb through this post and find anything you might be interested in complaining about. You all seem to be very good at that (Lego is an exception to this, as he complained about the Special Olympics and little else).
TO KIYA: Please don't think yourself better than anyone. One such as myself may save your life someday. I do believe that, you too, have a problem with that quote you put in your quote that is very disgraceful. You said
Quote
We Germans respect Life+Tolerance, and naught else in the world!
What does that mean? We respect nothing but the above? (To clarify, I did not comb through your post, I merely read it.) How do smart-[nocando] remarks feel to you? (I'm sure you have something amusing to say about that)
I'm sure I could think up a nice disclaimer to put in my quote section.

*whistles*

Why yes, come to think of it. Respect for life and tolerance and nothing else (what about respect for knowledge, competence, different opinions, etc? Respecting tolerance and having tolerance yourself are two different things) does seem to be a tad radical, not to mention that Kiya seems to presume to speak for all Germans. Do all Germans share a hive mind?

Mmm. I love poking at seams in poor wording. Hey, if you want to be pedantic, the least you could do is communicate clearly.

Oh, IronFist, I've had probs with Bismarck's quote, being an atheist, see? The phrase about "God" - so I thought a bit how to rephrase - if you look at my changed "quote" => it has a laughing smiley, right? So, was meant as a verbal joke and teaser .
Nope, I certainly don't speak for all Germans - only for myself - but I had to follow Bismarck's quote choice as not to change it too much and make it unrecognisable.

Quote

You've got me - I like practicing my search abilities on the internet, it's fascinating for me - but in this case, I knew the quote, as it is quite famous and was used in the Kaiserreich a lot to stress national pride (later on as well, in a disturbing way in fact) - in Germany BTW. Political speeches were a hobby for me at school, I loved those classes, specially analysing them and finding out how manipulation and desinformation of masses work. Our teacher made those classes very interesting.

@Winterfox, there's much more I respect, but would have altered that quote too much. But if you ask for my preference? It would be tolerance in the first place. Call it poor wording if you wish - will still not change my preference.
Kiya

TO THE INVOLVED: I am going to forfeit this argument, seeing that it is going nowhere. I am sorry for any mental stress this debate has caused any of you (it kills me, but only when I read it).
This debate got way off topic beginning with my morals, then my quote, and then about everybody's mentality. None of the above have anything to do with resistance crystals. Besides, I've gotten far enough without them, I might as well give up on them.
I'm sorry for getting angry at Kiya, because it really isn't my way of doing things. Also, if Kiya is an atheist, why criticise my quote? I took it personally. About the part where I say something about people like me saving lives? I meant doctors, hahaha! A threat it was not if that's what any of you thought. I despise rude and arrogant people and I'm sorry if I was either. (I also got tired of her always correcting my quote.)
TO WINTERFOX: No, Germans do not share a hive mind. That might have been a question for Kiya but I figured I'd answer it since I was already typing this post.
I hope this will not conflict with future posts.
